Starting a monitor

To start a monitor

1. Type SM or MONSERV on the COMMAND line of any view and press Enter.The Start Monitors (SM or MONSERV) view is displayed and it lists all available monitors.

   Success

   Tip

   To learn about a monitor service, type H in the CMD field next to the service and press Enter. A description of the service, its parameters, and the syntax of its warning message are displayed.

   To learn about a field on the Start Monitors view, position the cursor on the field and press F1 for online Help.

2. In the CMD field next to the service that you want to start, type S and press Enter.Depending on the type of monitor that you select, a monitor-specific dialog is displayed. The following figure shows an example of a workload dialog display.

3. Specify the monitor service criteria:

    

   Field	Description	Default
   PARM	unique name for the request or a parameter for the monitor For more information about the monitor that you want to start, see Monitor-reference	blanks

   INTERVAL	time interval between successive service invocations	not applicable
   STOP	when to stop the monitor service	24 hours

   WMSG	where the warning messages are to be sent	LOG
   WIN	number of intervals between warning messages	1
   WLIM	maximum number of warning messages	10
   RST	restart option to be used when a service is quiesced because of an inactive target region	HOT
   QIS	action to be taken when a target is not active	YES
   TITLE	display title for the monitor service (see Monitor-request-title)	name of the service
   PLOTMAX	maximum value to be shown on the X-axis boundary for a PLOT of this monitor request	not applicable
   RANGES	from one to four upper-range limit values for the PLOT range distribution	no range
   LOG	logging option specification for the monitor service	no logging

4. Press Enter.The service monitor request is started.
