SPACSECR—reduce secondary allocation to largest extent (used with StopX37/II)

If z/OS has been unsuccessful at allocating space, the SPACSECR function reduces the size of the requested secondary allocation to the size of the largest single extent that exists on the volume.

z/OS satisfies a secondary extent by allocating up to five individual extents to accumulate the required space. If z/OS cannot accumulate the total secondary allocation amount in five extents on the volume, the job abends.

Because z/OS normally cancels the job when allocation failure occurs, SPACSECR provides a chance for successful completion of the job.
