SPACAQTY—set space allocation using Data Set Size Assist DB

The SPACAQTY function sets primary and secondary space allocation values for non-VSAM and VSAM DASD data sets that are being created.

The SPACAQTY uses information from the rule list parameters and from the Data Set Size Assist database to formulate the new space allocation values. Exceptions for VSAM allocations are noted in the parameter explanations.

When a data set passes the SPACAQTY filter list parameters, it is automatically tracked in the Data Set Size Assist database. Allocation information is maintained from the time a tracked data set is created to when it is uncataloged. The next time the data set is created, the data set is available for SPACAQTY function processing if its space allocation values (in the JCL or IDCAMS define statements) have not changed since the prior allocation. If the space allocation values have not changed, SPACAQTY uses the rule list INC/EXC statements to determine which data set allocation parameters should be modified. The rule list SET parameters determine the manner in which the parameters are modified. Some of the rule list statements use derived values, which are based on the last allocation information maintained in the database. For more information, see Using-Data-Set-Size-Assist.
