Installing SNMP support for MainView Middleware Monitor

To install the MainView Middleware Monitor SNMP support, complete the following steps:

  1. Install Perl (see Perl requirements for event automation for the supported versions of Perl).
  2. Copy the SNMP-3.60 module SNMP.pm file to your Perl net directory.
    • On Windows, this directory name would be something like \perl\lib\net, and
    • UNIX systems, the directory name would be something like /usr/perl5/site_perl/5.8.3/Net. This file adds the SNMP support to Perl.
If you are using UNIX, change the SNMP.pm file to an executable and change the ownership of the file to the MainView Middleware Monitor user.
  3. Copy the InstallDir\SNMP\BMC_SNMPTRAP.pl script into a directory that is accessible by the MVMM Event Service.
The directory must be on the same computer as the MVMMEvent Service.
  4. In the BMC_SNMPTRAP.pl file that you copied to the new directory, change the SNMP receiver name to the host name of the computer where you wish to send the SNMP traps. See the comments in the file for more information about what must change. You can also alter any other default values at this time (TCP/IP ports, etc.); read Defining-events-triggers-and-actions before making any additional changes.
  5. If you are using a central SNMP management software tool, such as IBM Tivoli, HP OpenView, CA Unicenter, or Netcool, and want to use the BMC MIB to map the SNMP traps received from MainView Middleware Monitor to your SNMP management software, then follow the instructions for you SNMP management software to load a third-party MIB file. The name of the MainView Middleware Monitor MIB file is BMCMM.MIB.
