Creating an event rule

Note

Creating event rules one at a time for monitoring a large number of topics is repetitive and time-consuming; refer to the Defining-event-templates section for a more suitable method.

BMC does not recommend the use of concrete history and event rules and they have been deprecated in this release and support will be removed in the future. Customers should utilize event rule and history rule templates as the correct way to configure their history gathering and event actions.

IBM MQ objects for which you might want to create event rules include:

  • Queue manager
  • Status
  • Queues
  • Status
  • Queue n% full
  • Enqueue/dequeue (in/out) rate
  • Stale messages
  • Channels
  • Status
  • Channel listener status
  • Channel initiator status

To create an event rule

  1. Enter edit mode and open the Events tab.
  2. Click New Rule (icon button) and enter a name for the rule.
  3. On the Rules tab, select a trigger. To create a trigger, see Creating a trigger.
  4. In the Action section, select an action. To create an action, see Creating an action.
  5. If you want the event to automatically clear or to be notified when it is no longer true, select an action in the Clear Action section. If necessary, create a new action.
  6. To confirm that the rule is valid, click Validate.
  7. Click Commit (icon) to save the event rule.

If you get an error when you try to commit the event rule, check that the trigger and action are valid.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
