Managing objects

There are a number of ways you can manage the objects in the repository, although some options are specific to object types and might appear disabled.

The following options are accessed by right-clicking on the object or agent in the Object Repository tree.

  • Register Object for Monitoring – this registers the selected object and all its ancestors for monitoring.
  • Bulk Registration for Monitoring - this registers/unregisters multiple objects for monitoring. See Registering-and-un-registering-multiple-objects-for-monitoring.
  • Unregister Object for Monitoring – this unregisters the selected object and all its children from monitoring.
  • Deprecate Object (Deprecate Agent if you select an agent) – this indicates the object and all its children have been deprecated adjusting its state. If the object was already in the Not-Found state, it transforms to a Deleted state. This also unregisters the object and all its children.
  • Undo Deprecate Object (Undo Deprecate Agent if you select an agent) - performs an Undo Deprecate operation on the selected object/agent and all its children. You should confirm the selected object/agent's children revert to a Confirmed state.
  • Delete Object (Delete Agent if you select an agent) - change the state of the object and its children to deleted.
  • Undo Deprecate Object (Undo Deprecate Agent if you select an agent) – this indicates the object has been re-added (used to re-add an object previously deprecated by accident for example). Once confirmed to exist by an agent and extension or by synchronizing, it changes to a confirmed state.
  • Discover Objects - applicable only to object type nodes with discoverable child objects; for example, the WebSphere MQ Queue Managers node.
  • Discover Object (Discover Agent if you selected an agent) – this notifies supporting extensions connected to this agent to discover objects they know about. This option is only displayed if the object is discoverable.
  • Re-confirm Agent – this notifies the agent to re-send all object information to the service set, updating the object repository by causing the objects to be re-confirmed and their registration for monitoring synchronized with that of the agent.
  • Restore Agent - this restores objects registered for monitoring on the agent with information from the object repository. If there are extensions that are running with discovery enabled, they can change the monitoring state of some objects before the state can be restored. When restoring an agent from a clean state, extensions with discovery enabled should not be running until after you have executed this command.
  • Refresh Tree - this rebuilds the Object Repository tree to update the listed nodes and associated information. The tree is displayed as collapsed to its root node after this operation.
  • Refresh Children - this rebuilds the portion of the Object Repository tree only for branches directly below the selected object. If expanded, those branches are displayed as collapsed to the selected object node after this operation.
  • Apply Object Policies (Apply Agent Policies if you selected an agent) – applies the polices to the selected agent and executes them.
  • Test Object Policies (Test Agent Policies if you selected an agent) – tests application of the policies to the selected agent.

These operations except Deprecate and Re-add are not supported with agents prior to version 8.0. Use the methods for the older release for registering or unregistering the objects. Only the objects that are registered for monitoring are available in the Object Repository.
