Policy action types

  • Agent Discovery Sweep: This triggers a Discovery Sweep of the agent and underlying objects. Action Details for this type is Max Sweep Duration in seconds.
  • Associate Event Template: This associates an event template with a new object or removes the association when an object is no longer monitored. Custom fields for this type are Template Type (which is the same as Object type) and Template Name.
  • Associate History Template: This associates a history template with a new object or removes the association when an object is no longer monitored. Custom fields for this type are Template Type (which is the same as Object type) and Template Name. Note that an object can only be associated to one History Template at a time. If a policy action attempts to associate an object to a second History Template, the association fails (the failure is recorded in the audit table).
  • Create WMQ Connection: This action only applies to WebSphere MQ Queue Managers. When a queue manager has been discovered, this creates or updates a MQ channel (and other required MQ objects) to the queue manager and then creates or updates a TrueSight Middleware Administrator (TSMA) WMQ Connection. When a queue manager no longer exists it removes the TSMA WMQ Connection. See also MainView-Middleware-Administrator-integration-options and Creating the server connection channel WMQ Connection.
  • Dashboard Action: This creates and associates the object with a Dashboard Template, creating the underlying infrastructure as needed. Custom fields are Dashboard Template Name, Dashboard Instance Name, Logical Object Base Name, Logical Object Type, and View Collection Name.
  • Deployment and Update: This triggers a deployment operation on the monitored host. Custom field to select the package to be deployed is displayed for this action.
  • Object Discovery Sweep: This triggers a Discovery Sweep of the object and underlying objects if selected. Custom fields include Max Sweep Duration in seconds and Discover all Objects of Type.
  • Register Object: This sets the object to be monitored in the database and eaa.xml. There are no custom fields for this type.
  • Run Automation Script: This executes one of the Event Automation Scripts that are included in TrueSight Middleware and Transaction Monitor. Custom fields for this type include; Script Name, Script Arguments, and Use Credentials. If Use Credentials is Yes, Username, Password, and Invoke with obscured password are displayed. Note that the Run Automation Script Password is persisted by OBF obfuscation. The script is expected to reside in the automation subdirectory of the installation directory of the services. See Script variables for variables that can be used as script arguments.
  • Run Script: This executes any custom Script created by the user. Custom fields for this type include; Script Name, Script Arguments, and Use Credentials. If Use Credentials is Yes, Username, Password, and Invoke with obscured password are displayed. Note that the Run Script Password is persisted by OBF obfuscation. The script is expected to reside in the automation subdirectory of the installation directory of the services. See Script variables for variables that can be used as script arguments.
  • Set Agent Preferences: This changes a specified set of agent preference values. There is a custom table that allows the user to select one or more Agent Preferences and the value for the preference.
  • Set Extension Preferences: This changes a specified set of extension preference values. A custom field for Extension name selects the type of extension, and there is a custom table that allows the user to select one or more Extension Preferences and the value for the preference.

    Warning

    Note

Password preferences are stored in the eaa.xml file in the agent directory. The passwords are encoded using obfuscation. Note that this obfuscation is not cryptographic encryption. Care must be taken to ensure that the agent and extension files and directories have sufficient protection to prevent unauthorized individuals from accessing these parameters.

  • Suppress Events: This creates a schedule for the events to be suppressed for the objects.
  • Dissociate All Event Templates: This removes ALL event template associations for an object. This is not limited to associations that were made via policies, but all associations for that object.
