Starting and stopping queue managers


This topic describes how to start and stop queue managers.

Note

Before starting or stopping a queue manager, make sure the relevant Command Platform option is set in the Remote Access section of the WMQ connection properties. See Adding-connections for more details.

Starting and stopping a queue manager 

Starting a queue manager

  1. From the Navigation Panel, navigate to the relevant queue manager.
  2. In the Properties screen for the relevant queue manager, select one of the following options:
    • Host: Select the relevant host (if multiple instances are in use)
    • Start: Starts the queue manager.
    • Start Multi InstanceThis option either starts the queue manager allowing for multiple instances, or starts the queue manager in standby mode as the standby instance.
  3. Click Start.

Stopping a queue manager

  1. From the Navigation Panel, navigate to the relevant queue manager.
  2. From the Operations drop-down menu in the Properties screen for the relevant queue manager, select Stop Queue Manager, and in the displayed popup dialog box, select one of the following:
    • Stop: Stops the running instance and any standby instances.
    • Switchover to Standby: Stops the queue manager and initiates an instance that is running in standby to start automatically.
    • End Standby Instance: Stops a queue manager that is running in standby mode
    • Host: Select the relevant host (if multiple instances are in use)
  3. Click Stop.

Information

On OS/400, MVMA sends the following commands via a 'system' call.

This is the first command, to ensure the subsystem is active: 'STRSBS SBSD(QMQM/QMQM)'

To start the queue manager, this command is sent: 'STRMQM MQQNAME(%QMGR%)'

To stop the queue manager, this command is sent: 'ENDMQM MQQNAME(%QMGR%) | %options%'"
