Managing topics
Topics are subjects that a subscriber chooses to receive (subscribe to). Specific messages can be associated with topics; messages with similar contents are published to a topic, and subscribers register for the topic. This ensures that they will receive all relevant messages.
The following is an example of a Topics Summary View:
Summary view operations available from the Operations drop-down menu are: Copy As New Topic, Delete, Permissions, Audit, Publish Messages, Upload/Import, Tag Topic
To access the selected topic's Properties Editor, click the Topic Name.
In addition, the following operations are available from the operations drop-down menu in the main options bar:
- New Topic: Create a new topic.
- Publish Messages: Publish a topic message.
- Upload/Import: Upload/import messages to topics.
- Show Topic Status: Switch to the Topic Status Summary View.
- CSV Export: Exports the information displayed in this view in CVS format.
Publishing topics
Publish topics from either the Topics or Subscriptions Summary views in the generic options toolbar.
To publish a new topic message
- In the Topic or Subscription Summary View, select Publish Messages from the Operations drop-down menu in the main options bar.
- Enter a Topic String to publish to in the Topic String field.
- Parameters are displayed for key message properties. Set parameters available for each visible field (as necessary). Refer to IBM MQ documentation for help with any field definitions.
- Select the Retained checkbox if you want the topic to be available to future subscribers who are interested in the topic.
- Click the Save icon to publish the message.
To upload an existing message to publish
- In the Topic or Subscription Summary View, select Upload/Import from the Operations drop-down menu in the main options bar.
- Click Browse to open the File Upload dialog.
- Locate the file to upload and upload it.
- Enter a Topic String to publish to in the Topic String field..
- Select the Retained checkbox if you want the topic to be available to future subscribers who are interested in the topic.
- Click Import. The file is uploaded and added to the Publish Parameters Editor.
Adding a topic
To add a topic
- From the Topics view, select New Topic from the Operations drop-down menu in the main options bar.
- Define the required parameters in the New Topic pane.
- Save to create the topic immediately.
- Optional - To schedule for later creation, select the Schedule Tasks calendar and configure future topic creation.
