Viewer configuration

Console Automation Viewers are Java applets that are launched from the Automation Viewers page accessible from the navigation menu on the left side of most web pages. Viewers are created by administrators using the Viewer Configuration page. Only administrators can create a viewer configuration.

Any number of viewer configurations may be created, and each viewer can connect to sessions on one or more Automation Servers that are running. The Viewer configuration page is accessible from the main Console Automation configuration page. This page allows administrators to create, modify and delete viewer configurations.

To create a new viewer click on either the New Viewer button or New Viewer Wizard button and enter a name and description. If you chose the wizard then continue by clicking the Next button, if you used the traditional manual configuration then select sessions and layout options using the tabs to define the look of the viewer interface.

The New Viewer Wizard will step through creating a viewer configuration in a logical manner.

Viewer Information

The Viewer Information panel prompts for the viewer name and description. A unique viewer name is required and the description is optional. Both the viewer name and description are displayed in the Automation Viewers page available to operators.

Viewer Details

The check boxes on the Viewer Details page determine which panels will be added to the viewer.

Select Sessions

The Select Sessions page contains a list of all the sessions available to the viewer. Check the sessions to be included in the viewer. The list may be filtered based on the server and session type for easy selection.

Create an Explorer Pane

Explorer panes may be created on the Create an Explorer Pane page. Explorer panes may be created by MVCA Sessions, SYSPLEX or CPC. SecureHMC is required for explorer panes built from SYSPLEX or CPC information. Once an explorer pane is built, a preview is displayed and actions may be assigned to the nodes in the tree.

Multiple explorer panes may be created by clicking the Save and create another explorer pane button. Click the Done creating explorer panes button when no more explorer panes are needed.

Create a Dashboard Pane

The Create a Dashboard Pane page adds dashboard views to the viewer. To create a dashboard enter a name and select a dashboard type.

Viewer Summary

The Viewer Summary page provides a description of the viewer configuration that will be created, as well as links that allow you to re-visit specific pages and modify the viewer settings.

Add/Edit Viewer

The Add/Edit Viewer tab enables you to add new viewers as well as edit existing ones.

Sessions

The Sessions tab has a pair of radio buttons allowing for either all sessions, or a selected set of sessions. If the 'Selected Sessions' button is selected, a list of all sessions from all Console Automation servers is displayed. The list of sessions may be sorted by clicking on the column header. The check boxes in the left-most column are used to include a session in a viewer configuration. Simply click the check boxes to select or unselect the desired sessions. The checkbox in the top row can be used to select or unselect all sessions. Clicking the 'Save' button will save the configuration and return control to the Viewers page.

Layout

The Layout tab has a set of check boxes to define the appearance of the viewer:

Show Priority Message Panel

Display the priority message panel which contains messages designated as important by automation rules.

Show Scrolling Message Panel

Display the scrolling message panel which contains all messages except those discarded by rule filtering.

Show Command Panel

Display the command input and console launcher panel.

Show Explorer View

Display one or more explorer views; select from the listed views which have been defined using the Explorer Viewers tab.

Colors

Colors for the viewer may be defined to override the default colors. Specifying different colors for each viewer allows operators to easily identify which viewer is for which purpose. To change colors, click on the hexadecimal color indicator and either type in numeric values, or click on the color panels to specify a color. The Viewer Color panel will update to show a preview of the various colors.
