VMware

If you are planning to run MVCM on a virtual machine under VMware please consider that MVCM should be treated as a real-time application rather than an ordinary 'ondemand' software application.

Ensure that the MVCM virtual machine has priority for sufficient memory and CPU resources and that it will not be starved competing with other virtual machines on the same ESX/ESXi host. You should also review and follow the VMware timekeeping recommendations in their knowledge base article at:

http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1006427

  1. the Red Hat packages 'libxslt' must be installed; if these packages are not included in your initial system you must manually add them before installing our software.
  2. the utility packages 'sysstat', 'dos2unix' and 'unix2dos' are recommended.
  3. we use a simple partitioning scheme, a small (100mb) /boot, a 4gb swap and the remainder all one big / partition. 80gb is more than enough disk space. If an alternate partitioning scheme is preferred please note that all of our software and data is installed under /usr, specifically /usr/apache-tomcat-7.0.26 (with a /usr/tomcat symlink) and /usr/iocinst so /usr should be the bulk of the allocated drive space.
  4. firewall software and SELinux are not desirable and must be disabled
  5. the group 'iocgroup' with members 'tomcat', 'iocadmin' and 'iocuser' are required to exist before our MVCM software is installed. These accounts are for file ownership only, they do not need to be enabled for login
  6. it is extremely desirable that both DNS and time synchronization (NTP) be set up and working
  7. Sun Java 8 is a prerequisite for our software to be installed. It may be pre-installed by the customer or they can use the standard Oracle rpm that we can make available for downloading. Note: this must be the Oracle version of Java, OpenJDK and other versions are not supported. It must be the full Java package (JDK or Java Development Kit), not the less complete run-time (JRE) package that is found at www.java.com.
  8. We provide a customized RPM for the Tomcat web server which must be installed before the remainder of our software packages, Tomcat will use both unencrypted (port 80) and SSL-encrypted (443) ports. The install.sh script installs our packages in the correct order.
