Pipe management

Pipes are managed by the Job Optimizer Pipes Subsystem and the Job Optimizer Pipes address space.

Pipe management involves several mechanisms that serve to:

  • Dynamically replace a sequential data set with a pipe (dynamic pipe setting) which makes the usage of pipes transparent to the JCL
  • Emulate sequential data set processing to applications, which makes the usage of pipes transparent to the applications
  • Synchronize data transfer operations between applications
  • Ensure data integrity
  • Automatically create a sequential file that contains the data that is written to the pipe, which can be used for subsequent processing or for backup purposes (Automated File Creation)
