Benefits of TOM
TOM provides the following important benefits:
Easy management of objects on different systems and sysplexes
With TOM, you can see the objects that are defined on a single sysplex. There is one registry per TOMPLEX and it is shared and accessible by all members of the TOMPLEX.
Simple definition of objects
With TOM, you can specify a minimum of the Started Task name and step name for IBM MVS Started Tasks, and TOM manages the availability of those objects by checking the MVS control blocks for the presence of those Started Tasks.
TOM can also manage other objects just as easily.
TOM objects can also inherit definitions from a model object. If the model object changes, all objects that are based on that model receive the same changes.
Maximization of resource availability
With TOM, you can ensure that an object is moved automatically from a system that fails unexpectedly to another system that is running TOM. TOM is aware of the status of systems in the sysplex and the status of objects that are being managed by all of the TOMs in the sysplex. This combined information allows TOM to start an object on an alternate system within moments of a system failure. The decision making and execution occur unaided and much more quickly than a person’s ability to decide and react. Such capability allows TOM to ensure that an object is available when you need it to be.
