Layer set naming conventions
The following three-node formats are valid layer set names:
- &SYSPLEX.userSpecifiedName
- &SYSPLEX.&SYSNAME.userSpecifiedName
This name is also referred to as a layer set pattern.
The layer set pattern of a layer set can contain any number of nodes and can be up to 64 characters in length, as described in the following table:
Node | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
&SYSPLEX | Yes | Resolves to the sysplex name This name is required for every layer object or layer set. |
&SYSNAME | No | Resolves to the system name This variable resolves to different values, depending on whether you attach
|
User specified name | Yes A layer object (or layer set) name must have a minimum of 2 nodes in the name. | 1- to 54-character name for the set |
When sets are created from layer sets on other systems or sysplexes, the set names are derived from the two-node name in the Layer Pattern field. In addition, the sets cannot be edited and changed on the remote systems. You must edit the definitions for the layer set on the system on which it was created and those changes can be copied to the remote systems and sysplexes. You cannot edit the Pattern field of layer sets that are already attached to a system or sysplex layer.
