Activating the Automation Reporter


To activate the Automation Reporter, perform the following steps:

To activate the Automation Reporter

  1. Use the MainView AutoOPERATOR application Dynamic Parameter Manager to specify parameter values that activate the Automation Reporter, or manually edit BBPARM member AAOARPxx to specify the Automation Reporter parameter values.The Dynamic Parameter Manager (DPM) is a panel-driven application that allows you to view or modify parameters in BBPARM members from a BBI-TS session. For more information about using the Dynamic Parameter Manager, refer to the MainView AutoOPERATOR Customization Guide.

    In BBPARM member AAOARPxx, specify IRHIST=YES.

    Specifying IRHIST=NO (the default setting) means that the Automation Reporter will not record any event or Rule activity history and no data is displayed in any of the Automation Reporter views.

  2. (optional)Specify data collectors with the AROPTS= parameter.The AROPTS parameter allows you to specify all, one, or more data collectors. If you specify ALL or do not specify a value, the Automation Reporter activates all of the collectors, which might result in using unexpected levels of CPU in the MainView AutoOPERATOR PAS.

  3. Activate BBPARM member AAOARPxx in one of the following ways:
    • activate the BBPARM member AAOARPxx from the Confirm Parameter Activation panel of the Dynamic Parameter Manager application (refer to the MainView AutoOPERATOR Customization Guide ).
    • issue the BBI command to activate the parameter member manually.

  4. To save the Last Used historical data, define the CASPERM registry (if it is not already defined to the CAS).The Last Used historical data is a limited set of Rules, Rule Set, and EXEC data that is saved over a very long term (years).

To estimate the amount of space the CASPERM registry needs to hold the Last Used data, you need the following information:

  • The approximate number of Rules (R) in all Rule Sets for each BBI-SS PAS that is connected to the CAS.
  • The approximate number of EXECs (E) for each BBI-SS PAS that is connected to the CAS.
  • The number of PASs (P) connected to the CAS.

Assuming that you can store approximately 800 entries per cylinder of 3390 DASD, use the following formula to calculate your space needs:

[(R x 900) +(E x 900)] x P / 720000 = Cyls

Example

[(500 x 900)+(350 x 900)] x 3 / 720000 = Cyls
(450000 + 315000) x 3 / 720000 = Cyls
765000 x 3 / 720000 = Cyls
2295000 / 720000 =  Cyls
3.1875 = Cyls

 

Note

Be aware that the collected historical data only goes back to when AR Last Used (ELU and RLU options) data collection was activated, and there might be gaps if data collection was turned off, or if the CASPERM registry was not available.
