Accessing Implementation Assist and Allocating Data Sets


When you access Implementation Assist for the first time, you must allocate several data sets for Implementation Assist to use to store collected data.

Ensure that you have sufficient DASD and directory space in your ISPF profile data set. This is necessary because Implementation Assist generates a profile member (DACUPROF).

Do not compress the database (mentioned in step 4) or the data sets (mentioned in steps 6 and 8).

To access Implementation Assist and allocate data sets:

  1. In the DATA ACCELERATOR Compression Primary Menu enter 3 (Implementation Assist) in the option select space.The panel displays the DATA ACCELERATOR Compression Implementation Assist Entry Panel.
  2. Enter the name of the library that contains the Implementation Assist modules.This is the distribution library created when you unloaded data set BMC.DAC.ISRCLIB of the distribution tape during DATA ACCELERATOR Compression installation.

    Option 1 (Start Implementation Assist) is selected by default.

  3. Press Enter.If this is the first time you are accessing Implementation Assist, or if you have deleted the data sets allocated during a previous access, the Panel displays the Database Allocation panel.

    If you accessed Implementation Assist previously and the allocated data sets still exist, the panel displays the DATA ACCELERATOR Compression Implementation Assist Primary Menu.

  4. Type or verify values in the fields of the Database Allocation panel to allocate the sequential data set that will contain the database of collected SMF and VTOC data.
  5. Press Enter. The panel displays the JCL Allocation panel.
  6. Type or verify values in the fields of the JCL Allocation panel to allocate the sequential data set that will contain the JCL generated during Implementation Assist processing.
  7. Press Enter.The panel displays the Table Allocation panel.
  8. Type or verify values in the fields of the Table Allocation panel.These values allocate the partitioned data set (PDS) that will contain the candidate and registration lists generated during Implementation Assist processing.
  9. Press Enter.The panel displays the Load Library panel.
  10. Type the name of the library where the DATA ACCELERATOR Compression load modules are located.
  11. Press Enter.The panel displays the DATA ACCELERATOR Compression Implementation Assist Primary Menu. From this menu you can select the Implementation Assist options.
  12. To select an option, type the option number in the choice entry field and press Enter.Select option 5 (Panel options) first to verify or change general setting that the panel will use when generating Implementation Assist JCL. Next, select the remaining options in the order listed on the menu. Implementation Assist uses the output from each option as the input for the next option. For example, you must execute the job generated using option 1 and wait for the job to complete successfully before you can select option 2.
