Overview of DATA ACCELERATOR Compression
DATA ACCELERATOR Compression reduces the physical storage requirements of data sets through data compression. The most significant advantage of compressing data is a reduction of physical storage requirements. This reduction results in reduced costs.
By providing advanced compression techniques, DATA ACCELERATOR Compression compresses and expands defined data sets. The data sets are defined in one of two ways:
- Through a DATA ACCELERATOR Compression managed SMS data class with compaction
- Through registration, using the supplied Main Menu panels or the Batch Registration utility
You can also use the User Control exit to control compression processing, depending on which programs access the data sets, their SMS class, or their job accounting information.
DATA ACCELERATOR Compression uses an advanced compression architecture, proven compression techniques, and a CUA-compliant user interface to provide high-performance, easy-to-use data compression. All DATA ACCELERATOR Compression functions are transparent and do not require the application and JCL changes associated with other data compression products.
