Scaling LPAR R4HA Reduction Activity by a percentage

Use the following procedure to scale the LPAR R4HA Reduction Activity by a percentage to see the potential changes that occur by either increasing or decreasing the amount of MSUs that are reduced from the R4HA peak.  For a particular LPAR, you can scale:

  • Mobile reduction activity
  • zCAP reduction activity

Note

This option is available only when the LPAR has Mobile or zCAP Reduction activity.

To scale the LPAR R4HA reduction activity by a percentage

  1. In the Workload Actions column, clickscale icon.PNG.
  2. The Scale Mobile Reduction for lparName dialog displays as shown in the following figure:
job-stc report scale lpar msu reduction activity.PNG
The following table describes the curves you can display in the charting area:

    Chart curve

    Description

    Actual LPAR R4HA MSU

Amount of R4HA utilization measured for the interval

The value indicates the total MSU utilization for the interval.

    Adjusted LPAR R4HA MSU

Amount of R4HA utilization after applying the Combined Activity reduction

The value indicates the R4HA MSU utilization after applying the Combined MSU Reduction.

In this example, the MSU utilization after reducing the total MSU utilization by a value of 60% of the LPAR Mobile Activity for the same interval.

    LPAR R4HA Reduction Activity

Amount of Mobile Workload R4HA and/or zCAP R4HA utilization for the interval

The different colors of the bar chart indicate values for the total number of R4HA MSUs identified as mobile transactions and the total number of R4HA MSUs identified as zCAP activity.

    Note

Both types of workload reduction activity are displayed only when both types exist on the LPAR. If only one type of workload reduction exists on the LPAR, then only that type of workload reduction is displayed.

    Defined Capacity

Displays or hides a line to designate the LPAR Defined Capacity on the charts

If the Defined Capacity value is 0 MSUs, no line is displayed.

     This dialog enables you to:

    • Select which curves to display in the charting area
    • Compare the MSU Reduction Activity (Mobile or zCAP) to the R4HA MSU Utilization
    • Scale the MSU Reduction Activity (Mobile or zCAP) by a percentage and analyze the results
In the Operations pane, you can increase (grow) or decrease (shrink) the Mobile or zCAP activity by entering a percentage number or by using the +/- buttons. After you specify a percentage, the chart refreshes and displays curves based on your specification.
  3. When finished specifying LPAR R4HA Reduction Activity percentage, click Apply Adjustments.
The Planning tool applies changes to the model and performs an evaluation.
  4. When prompted to view the evaluation results, click Yes to view them (as described in Viewing the Plan Evaluation Summary Report or No to continue working.

    Note

When you scale the LPAR R4HA Reduction activity, the specified scaling percentage changes the Mobile Reduction value or the zCAP Reduction value, but does not change any workload activity on this LPAR. If you need to change the workload activity, you can perform these operations as described in the Working-with-a-plan-at-the-LPAR-level section.
