Adding Workload Reduction CSV files to Model Builder Tasks

Cost Analyzer can provide support for IBM Mobile Workload Pricing (MWP) and z Systems Collocated Application Pricing (zCAP) in your cost models when you are using the CSV reporting method. This topic provides procedures for adding Workload Reduction CSV files to the next Model Builder Task that runs.

Use one of the following procedures to add Workload Reduction CSV files (either WMP or zCAP) to a Model Builder Task:

• Upload CSV files using Manage Model Builder Tasks Administration Tool
• Copy CSV files to a staging folder on the Cost Analyzer application server

When performing either of these procedures take note of the following conditions:

• You need to upload a CSV file for every month that MWP or zCAP was in effect.
• The next Model Builder Task that runs is automatically associated with the uploaded CSV files.
• You cannot associate CSV files with more than one Model Builder Task.
• After you upload a CSV file for a particular month, you need to rebuild the cost models for that month in order to apply MWP or zCAP to your MLC costs.
    

To upload CSV files using Manage Model Builder Tasks Administration Tool 

Mobile Workload and zCAP support are added to the next Model Builder Task that runs by using the Workload Reduction Support link in the Manage Model Builder Tasks administration tool.

1. From the Cost Analyzer console, click Administration Tools.

2. In the Administration Tools window, click Manage Model Builder Tasks.

   The Manage Model Builder Tasks dialog opens, listing all of the tasks that have been defined:

   Note

   With the dialog, you cannot select a specific Model Builder Task to associate with the CSV files.  Workload Reduction Support is applied only to the next Model Builder Task that is run.

3. Click the Workload Reduction Support link.

   The Workload Reduction Support dialog is displayed:
   

   Success

   Tip

   The Workload Reduction Support dialog enables you to upload the same comma-separated value (CSV) files that you used to report both your mobile CPU consumption and your zCAP activity to IBM. 

4. In the SCRT CSV Files section, click Browse and navigate to the location of the mobile CPU consumption CSV files or the zCAP activity CSV files that you want to add to the next Model Builder Task that runs.

5. Select one or more mobile CPU consumption CSV files or zCAP activity CSV files and click Open.
   Cost Analyzer imports the CSV files and lists them in the SCRT CSV Files section of the Workload Reduction Support dialog.

   Warning

   Note

   The following conditions apply:

   • The next Model Builder Task that runs will be associated with the uploaded CSV files.
   • Cost Analyzer verifies that your CSV files are valid before uploading them.
     However, Cost Analyzer does not verify the eligibility of specified MLC products or the validity of your specified CPU metrics. BMC recommends using only valid CSV files that were specified in the SCRT task and processed successfully.
   • You can remove any CSV file from the list by highlighting the file and clicking Remove.

6. (optional) In the Workload Manager section of the dialog, select Ignore WLM RMF mobile data if you want to ignore WLM RMF mobile data during the model build process.

   Success

   Tip

   Your specification should match the specification that you use for SCRT. For example, assume that you select Ignore WLM RMF mobile data and upload CSV files when using SCRT to report MSU utilizations to IBM. You should perform identical specifications and upload the same CSV files using the Workload Reduction Support dialog.

7. When finished making your selections, click Accept.
    

   Warning

   Note

   You cannot remove a CSV file after you click Accept.  However, you can overwrite any uploaded CSV file by using a different CSV file with the same name. For example, if you want to remove the effect of the CSV file from the cost model, you can prepare an empty CSV file with the same name and add it to the Workload Reduction Support. The empty CSV file replaces the original CSV file. During the model build process, Cost Analyzer will not apply any workload reduction costs because they no longer exist in the file.

To copy CSV files to a staging folder on the Cost Analyzer application server 

1. On your local computer, navigate to the location of the mobile CPU consumption CSV files that you want to add to the next Model Builder Task that runs.
2. Copy the Workload Reduction CSV files (either WMP or zCAP) that you want to add.
3. On the Cost Analyzer application server, navigate to C:/Program Files (x86)/BMC Software/SCA/Services/App_Data.

4. Paste the CSV files into the MWPStaging folder.

   Cost Analyzer applies the CSV files to the next Model Builder Task that runs. If you are adding CSV files for a previous month, you need to rebuild the cost model before generating a Monthly Summary Report or working with an LPAR and Workload Plan.    Warning

   Note

   The following conditions apply:

   • The MWPStaging folder is not a repository for the CSV files. Cost Analyzer uses the CSV files during the next model build process and then removes them from the folder.
   • It is the responsibility of the product administrator to ensure that the CSV files are valid for use in reporting MWP or zCAP activity according to specifications established by IBM SCRT.

Where to go from here

Cost Analyzer applies the CSV files to the next Model Builder Task that runs. If you are adding MWP or zCAP CSV files for a previous month, you need to rebuild the cost model before generating a Monthly Summary Report or working with an LPAR and Workload Plan. You can wait for the next scheduled Model Builder Task to complete, or you can run the Model Builder Task manually.
