Device Activity Report

The DEVICE or DEV control statement produces the Device Activity Report. This report is available in both Total and Delta mode.

Note

The DEVICE sampler must be active in the PAS to collect real-time data for this report.

The header of this report shows the date and time the data was collected, the report mode, and the interval. Each row in this report reflects the activity of a single device. The rows of this report are grouped by device class, and then sorted by device number within each class. The following figure is an example of the Device Activity Report.

The following table lists the header, ID (used when specifying keywords), and a brief description of each column in this report.

Column header

Column ID

Description

STG

GRP

STGGRP

Name of the storage group to which the device belongs

VOLSER

VOLSER

Volume serial of the volume mounted on the device

DEV

CLS

DEVCLS

Class of the device

DEV

NUM

DEVNUM

Device number, which includes the subchannel set ID.

(snnnn) - 's' is the subchannel set ID and 'nnnn' is the device number.

LCU

LCU

Hexadecimal identification for the LCU to which the device belongs

C

S

CHANSSID

Subsystem ID for the channel to which the device is connected (between 0 and 3)

A value for this column appears on IBM z/OS 2.1 and later systems. On earlier systems, a value of 0 appears.

ACTV

RATE

ACTVRATE

Rate at which SSCH instructions issued to the device are being completed successfully

RESP

TIME

RESPTIME

Average number of milliseconds the device required to complete an I/O request

IOSQ

TIME

IOSQTIME

Average number of milliseconds that I/O requests were queued by IOS before processing

CMR

DLY

CMR DLY

Average Initial Command Response Delay field--contains the average number of milliseconds that a successfully initiated start or resume function needs until the device indicates that the first command is acceptedThis value is present only when CMFMON is running on z990 or later-model processors.

When present, the value is calculated as follows:

Average Initial Command Response delay = Control unit busy delay time / Measurement event count

DB

DLY

DBDLY

Average number of milliseconds that an I/O request is being delayed because the device is busy

INT

DLY

INTDLY

Average amount of time, in milliseconds per I/O request, that I/O completion interrupts were delayed because no logical central processor (LCP) was available to accept them

A value for this field appears for devices attached to IBM zEnterprise EC12 (zEC12) and later servers. Otherwise, N/A appears.

PEND

TIME

PENDTIME

Average number of milliseconds that an I/O request remains queued in the channel

DISC

TIME

DISCTIME

Average number of milliseconds that the device had an active I/O request before it was disconnected from the channel path

CONN

TIME

CONNTIME

Average number of milliseconds that the device was connected to the channel path and actively transferring data between the device and central storage

CU Q

TIME

CUQTIME

Average control unit queue time, in milliseconds per I/O request

A value for this field appears for devices attached to IBM zEC12 and later servers. Otherwise, N/A appears.

%DEV

UTIL

DEVUTIL

Percentage of time that the device was in use

%D

RV

DRV

Percentage of time that a shared device was reserved by the processor on which CMFMON was started

PAV

MX

PAVMX

Number of exposures (base and aliases) of a Parallel Access Volume (PAV)

  • For regular PAV, this number is the current value.
  • For HyperPAV, this number is the average value during the recording interval.

PAV

TYP

PAVTYPE

Indicates the operating mode of the PAV

  • PAV for regular PAV
  • HPV for HyperPAV
