Determining conventions for resource names

BMC II for z/OS uses specific conventions for naming resources. Use the guidelines that are explained in this topic when naming your resources.

The resource naming convention for the BMC II for z/OS SAF is:

prefix.ssid.product.ssid.suffix

The resource name qualifiers are as follows:

  • prefix is the one- to eight-character prefix that is used for all resource names.

    Note

If you do not specify a prefix, the default prefix, BBM, is added to all resource names automatically.

  • ssid is the one- to four-character subsystem ID of the BBI-SS PAS that is being secured.

    Example

You might limit who has update access to the Rules Processor application on the production BBI-SS PAS, and grant everyone update access on the test PAS. In this situation, you would have two resource names, one for each BBI-SS PAS. Each resource name must be identified to the ESM so that you can identify what users or what group of users can access the resource on each PAS.

  • product is one of the following product abbreviations:
    • BBI for common resources
    • AAO for BMC II for z/OS resources
  • suffix is a predefined suffix that represents a specific resource.

When you create Rules, profiles, or permits to control access to resources, you can specify an explicit or generic value for any qualifier in the resource name except the prefix. To use generic values, first make sure that your ESM and the security class that you defined to it support generics. An example of an explicit resource name follows:

BBM.SS01.AAO.SS01.RULEREAD
