Other object types

This section describes the other mainframe object types that are available on the Mainframe Short-term Capacity Overview.

The object types are as follows:

  • The LPAR page displays MSU and MIPS charts for the most active LPARs.
  • The Software Product Group page displays an R4HA MSU chart.

    Warning

    Important

The total R4HA for the CPC is calculated according to IBM sub-capacity Monthly License Charge (MLC) rules; that is, during each hour for each MLC product, only LPARs on which type 89 records for the product exist are counted.

  • The z/OS Image page displays MIPS, R4HA MSU, and memory utilization charts for the most active z/OS images.
  • The Suite page displays CP MIPS Used, I/O rate, and ended job rate charts for the most active Suites. The metrics in these charts are aggregated across all z/OS images.

    Warning

    Important

Suites represent groups of jobs and started tasks that have been aggregated in UIE according to user-specified SUITE definitions.

  • The Application page presents an alternative view of the work performed on a z/OS image. While Suites are aggregated groups of jobs and started tasks, Applications are aggregated groups of CICS, IMS, Db2, WebSphere MQ, and Websphere Application Server for z/OS transactions. These transactions might run in the same started tasks that are part of some Suites, so Applications represent a different view of the same work that is represented by Suites.
The Application page displays CPU utilization, ended transaction rate, and I/O rate charts for the most active applications. The metrics in these charts are aggregated across all z/OS images.
  • The Business Application page reports on Business Applications, which are collections of transaction chains.
When transactional subsystems such as CICS and Db2 are used for business purposes, a particular business operation usually consists of several related elementary transactions. For example, a web-based order might consist of a WAS transaction, some Db2 transactions to get the customer's address and product price, and some CICS transactions to charge a credit card and schedule a delivery.
If you provided sufficient information to UIE and defined the appropriate Applications, UIE can combine the related elementary transactions into transaction chains. These chains are associated with the z/OS image where the chain originates, but individual elementary transactions in the chain might run on different systems. Each transaction chain represents a business operation, and the chain's meaning corresponds to a BMC Capacity Optimization Business Driver.
The structure of the Business Application Summary page is similar to the structure of the Application Summary page.
  • The Storage Controller page displays Disk Used, Free Space, Total Space, Fragmentation Index and Total IOs for the most active Storage Controllers. The metrics in these charts are aggregated across all storage pools.
  • The Storage Pool page displays Disk Used, Free Space, Total Space, Fragmentation Index and Total IOs for the most active Storage Pools. The metrics in these charts are aggregated across all storage controllers.
  • The Sysplex page displays a MIPs consumption chart for Sysplexes in the selected domain.
  • The Service/Report Class page displays the CP MIPs for the most active Service/Report Classes, aggregated across all z/OS images.
