BMC Discovery for z/OS system requirements

BMC Discovery for z/OS links your mainframe operations to the discovery data model by means of a mainframe agent that works with a BMC Helix Discovery and Dependency Mapping server to discover mainframe objects and create Configuration Items (CIs) for the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) classes.

The BMC Helix Discovery and Dependency Mapping discovery application initiates the discovery process from the BMC Helix Discovery server. The objects that are discovered on the mainframe are transformed into XML streams and sent to the discovery server. The mainframe objects are then reconciled and synchronized with the CMDB.

Note

The following conditions apply:

  • If the MVS.MCSOPER OPERCMDS class profile is defined, the CAS and Discovery PAS user ID needs READ access to security resource MVS.MCSOPER, as follows:

    PERMIT MVS.MCSOPER.* CLASS(OPERCMDS) ID(<userid>) ACCESS(READ)
  • The CAS and Discovery PAS requires the ability to execute MVS commands from an EMCS console to obtain MVS product version information.

    Note

This condition does not apply if you have applied PTF BPA1885

  • For MVI version 6.3, the CAS and Discovery PAS user ID must have RACF authority to SUPERUSER.PROCESS.GETPSENT resource in the UNIXPRIV class in order to discover all UNIX processes as follows:

    PERMIT SUPERUSER.PROCESS.GETPSENT CLASS(UNIXPRIV) ACCESS(READ) ID(<userId>)

BMC Discovery for z/OS has the following prerequisites:

  • BMC Discovery version 11.1 or higher
  • z/OS 2.1 or later

Note

If your devices do not support an IOSCDR macro, they will not be reported on. (This problem is known to occur with some SDK 348S tape drives.)
