Creating and managing alarms overview


In BMC AMI Ops User Interface, you can create and manage alarms overview with health widgets configured the way that you want. Each health widget represents the health of a group of selected targets and shows the following:

  • Number of targets with active alarms
  • Number of targets with alarms at critical and warning severities
  • Number of targets that are active (up) and inactive (down)

Before you begin

Log in to the BMC AMI Ops User Interface client.

To create an alarms overview and add a widget

You can create a blank alarms overview or clone an existing alarms overview.

  1. From an alarms overview in BMC AMI Ops User Interface, clickimage2022-11-28_10-58-26.pngnext to the alarms overview name at the top of the page.

    Tip

    To select a different alarms overview, click Switch next to the alarms overview name.

  2. Choose one of the following options:
    • New to create a blank alarms overview
    • Edit to edit the current alarms overview (available for user-created alarms overviews). For details about editing, see To edit an alarms overview and a widgetlater in this topic.
    • Clone to create a copy of the current alarms overview (available for user-created alarms overview)
  3. To create a new alarms overview or to clone an existing one, enter a unique name and, optionally, enter a description, and then click Save & Next.
  4. Enter a descriptive name for a health widget.
    The health widget represents the health of a group of targets.
  5. Select one or more targets for the widget.
    You can select a different context from which to select targets.
    You can sort and filter the list of targets by whole or partial target name, technology, LPAR, or Sysplex.
  6. In the New Widget dialog box, click one of the following buttons:

    • Cancel to close the New Widget dialog box and not save any changes
    • Save & Copy to save the widget and create a copy of it. The New Widget dialog box remains open with a copy of the last widget's selections.
    • Save & Close to save the widget and close the New Widget dialog box.

    The alarms overview remains in edit mode.

  7. Click one of the following buttons:

    • New Widget to add another health widget
    • Cancel to stop editing and close the alarms overview. For a new or cloned alarms overview, this means canceling the alarms overview creation and the alarms overview is not saved.
    • Save Changes to save the alarms overview with the current widgets

To edit an alarms overview and a widget

  1. From an alarms overview in BMC AMI Ops User Interface, click Switch next to the alarms overview name and select an alarms overview from the list.

    You can edit, clone, or delete an alarms overview using the image2022-11-28_10-58-26.pngmenu:

  2. Click image2022-11-28_10-58-26.pngand select Edit.
  3. Click one of the following buttons:

    • New Widget to add a health widget
    • Cancel to stop editing and close the alarms overview

    Alternatively, click image-2023-7-5_17-33-53-1.pngon an existing widget and choose one of the following options:

    • Edit 
    • Delete 
    • Clone
  4. Enter or edit a descriptive name for a health widget.
  5. Select one or more targets for the widget.
    You can select a different context from which to select targets.
    You can sort and filter the list of targets by whole or partial target name, product, LPAR, or Sysplex.
  6. In the New Widget dialog box, click one of the following buttons:

    • Cancel to close the New Widget dialog box and not save any changes
    • Save & Copy to save the widget and create a copy of it. The New Widget dialog box remains open with a copy of the last widget's selections.
    • Save & Close to save the widget and close the New Widget dialog box.

    The alarms overview remains in edit mode.

  7. Click one of the following buttons:
    • New Widget to add another health widget
    • Cancel to stop editing and close the alarms overview. For a new or cloned alarms overview, this means canceling the creation and the alarms overview is not saved.
    • Save Changes to save the alarms overview with the current widgets
  8. Click Save Changes to save the alarms overview with the current widgets.

To filter the targets in the alarms overview

You can filter the targets in an alarms overview by the following criteria:

  • Current severity
  • Technology
  • LPAR
