Examining alarms in the BMC AMI Ops user interface
For each alarm, you can see the following information. Alarms are refreshed every minute.

Current Severity | Current severity of the alarm |
Severity History | Alarm severity over previous evaluation cycles The history is presented from left to right, with the current severity on the right-most side of the chart. The evaluation cycle is set in the product and is typically 60 seconds. Alarm severity is represented by colored bar indicators:
A gray bar means the alarm was not triggered in that evaluation cycle. |

Severity Duration | Amount of time the alarm has been at the current severity |
Severity Start Time | Time of day the alarm started at the current severity |
Text | Text of the alarm |
Target | Target host name |
Technology | Technology that triggered the alarm |
Message ID | ID of the exception message contained in the alarm message |
Context | Context of the product |
Link | Hyperlink name of a view with details about the alarm Right-click the hyperlink to see the view name and the filter, sort, or period that are applied to the view. Click the hyperlink to go directly to the view. The item that triggered the alarm is highlighted. |
Before you begin
Log in to the BMC AMI Ops User Interface client.
To sort alarms
By default, alarms are sorted by severity, most severe at the top, and then by start time, with the most recent at the top.
- Click the sort indicator in the column header to sort the column in ascending order (from lowest values to highest values).
- Click the column header again to reverse the sort.
If you click to sort a different column, the first column sort is canceled.
To filter alarms
- On the Active Alarms page, click Advanced filter above the table.
- In the Selected filters box, type the names of the filters you want to apply, or select filters from the list.
- For numeric data, enter the operator and value you want to show. The operator must be to the left of the filter value.

- For character data, enter a string or partial string. The filter is not case sensitive.
Filtered results show any match to the string, whether at the beginning, middle, or end of the value.
- For numeric data, enter the operator and value you want to show. The operator must be to the left of the filter value.
To examine the details of an alarm
- From the BMC AMI Ops User Interface , select Alarms from the Dashboards menu on the navigation bar at the top of the window.
To see full details for a single alarm, click the hyperlink in the Alarm Name column.

- To see the view that is related to an alarm, from the Link column, do one of the following actions:
Click a hyperlink to launch the view. (PTF BP00474 applied) The item that triggered the alarm is highlighted:
- Right-click the hyperlink to see the name of the view and the query details for the view. Click the view name to open the view:
To drill-down into custom dashboard alarms
You can drill-down from a custom dashboard alarm tile to view all the alarms. You can also filter the alarms using the advanced filters.
- From the BMC AMI Ops User Interface, in Alarms tab, select Dashboards.
The Overview page is displayed. It includes the alarm tiles shipped with the product. - Click
to view the list of custom dashboards.
The custom dashboards are created by the user. For more information, see Creating-and-managing-dashboards-in-the-BMC-AMI-Ops-user-interface.
- Select a custom dashboard. The custom dashboard displays the alarm tiles created by the user.
- On the alarm tile that you want to examine, click on a hyperlinked number in the Alarms column.
The Active Alarms page is displayed listing the alarms and their details based on their type (Critical, Warning, Information, OK), technology, LPAR, and Sysplex configured in the custom dashboard. To view all the alarms, click Show All Alarms.
A list of all alarms is displayed.- To filter the alarms, click Advanced Filters.
The advanced filters are displayed. - Select one or more filters from the filter categories and click Apply filters.
A list of alarms based on the applied filters is displayed.
