Creating and managing dashboards in the BMC AMI Ops user interface


In BMC AMI Ops User Interface, you can create and manage dashboards with health widgets configured the way that you want. Each health widget represents the health of a group of selected targets and shows the following:

  • Number of targets with active alarms
  • Number of targets with alarms at critical and warning severities
  • Number of targets that are active (up) and inactive (down)

This topic presents the following information and tasks about creating and managing dashboards in the BMC AMI Ops User Interface:

Before you begin

Log in to the BMC AMI Ops User Interface client.

To create a dashboard and add a widget

You can create a blank dashboard or clone an existing dashboard.

  1. From a dashboard in BMC AMI Ops User Interface, clickimage2022-11-28_10-58-26.pngnext to the dashboard name at the top of the page.

    Tip

    To select a different dashboard, click Switch next to the dashboard name.

  2. Choose one of the following options:
    • New Dashboard to create a blank dashboard
    • Edit Dashboard to edit the current dashboard (available for user-created dashboards). For details about editing, see To edit a dashboard and edit a widgetlater in this topic.
    • Clone Dashboard to create a copy of the current dashboard (available for user-created dashboards)
  3. To create a new dashboard or to clone a dashboard, enter a unique name and, optionally, enter a description, and then click Save & Next.
  4. Enter a descriptive name for a health widget.
    The health widget represents the health of a group of targets.
  5. Select one or more targets for the widget.
    You can select a different context from which to select targets.
    You can sort and filter the list of targets by whole or partial target name, technology, LPAR, or Sysplex.
  6. In the New Widget pane, click one of the following buttons:

    • Cancel to close the New Widget pane and not save any changes
    • Save & Copy to save the widget and create a copy of it. The New Widget pane remains open with a copy of the last widget's selections.
    • Save & Close to save the widget and close the New Widget pane.

    The dashboard remains in edit mode.

  7. Click one of the following buttons:

    • New Widget to add another health widget
    • Cancel to stop editing and close the dashboard. For a new or cloned dashboard, this means canceling the dashboard creation and the dashboard is not saved.
    • Save Changes to save the dashboard with the current widgets

To edit a dashboard and edit a widget

  1. From a dashboard in BMC AMI Ops User Interface, click Switch next to the dashboard name and select a dashboard other than the Overview dashboard.

    You can edit, clone, or delete a dashboard from the image2022-11-28_10-58-26.pngmenu in the dashboard list:

  2. Click image2022-11-28_10-58-26.pngnext to the dashboard name at the top of the page and select Edit Dashboard.
  3. Click one of the following buttons:

    • New Widget to add a health widget
    • Cancel to stop editing and close the dashboard

    Alternatively, click the three-dot menu on an existing widget and choose one of the following options:

    • Edit dashboard
    • Delete dashboard
    • Clone dashboard
  4. Enter or edit a descriptive name for a health widget.
  5. Select one or more targets for the widget.
    You can select a different context from which to select targets.
    You can sort and filter the list of targets by whole or partial target name, product, LPAR, or Sysplex.
  6. In the New Widget pane, click one of the following buttons:

    • Cancel to close the New Widget pane and not save any changes
    • Save & Copy to save the widget and create a copy of it. The New Widget pane remains open with a copy of the last widget's selections.
    • Save & Close to save the widget and close the New Widget pane.

    The dashboard remains in edit mode.

  7. Click one of the following buttons:
    • New Widget to add another health widget
    • Cancel to stop editing and close the dashboard. For a new or cloned dashboard, this means canceling the dashboard creation and the dashboard is not saved.
    • Save Changes to save the dashboard with the current widgets
  8. Click Save Changes to save the dashboard with the current widgets.

To filter the targets in the dashboard

You can filter the targets in the dashboard by the following criteria:

  • Current severity
  • Technology
  • LPAR
