Connecting to a Host Server

The Host Server is part of the BMC AMI Ops Infrastructure and is used to access BMC AMI Ops monitored environments. To access the dashboards, active alarms, and data views, you need to connect to a Host Server.

Important

To login to BMC AMI Ops Infrastructure by using the certificate from BMC AMI Ops User Interface and cross-launch in BMC AMI Ops Insight, you require BMC AMI Ops Infrastructure version 7.0 or later.

To connect to BMC AMI Ops Infrastructure version earlier than 7.0, you have to connect with the other user as described in Step 3.

(BMC.AMIOPS.SPE2210) You can specify a default service and user data set. If you have specified a default service and user data set, BMC AMI Ops User Interface automatically connects to the service and data set when you click Alarms and select an option, or click Views. If you have not specified a default service, or you want to connect to user data set, see the following procedure. If you want to change the service or user data set, see To change the Host Server.

To connect to a Host Server

  1. (If you are using

    BMC AMI Ops Insight

) On the navigation bar, click Alarms and select an option, or click Views.

  2. To connect to a service, in the Connect to Ops Host Server field, do one of the following:
    • Click the box and select a host name and port number from the list.
    • Enter the hostName:portNumber for the Host Server to which you want to connect.

  3. (Optional) To connect to the new service with a different user, click Change user and enter the new credentials.
  4. BMC.AMIOPS.SPE2310(Optional) In the Access Code field, enter the access code.
If you have configured your user ID to work with an access code, you must provide a new access code every time you sign in to BMC AMI Ops service.

    Important

    • The access code is required only if you have used Multi-Factor Authentication to sign in.
    • If you have used MFA sign in, and you want to change to a different Host Server, which cannot be accessed with MFA authentication, click Change user and sign in again using a non-MFA credential.
  5. (BMC.AMIOPS.SPE2210) (Optional) To set the selected Host Server as the default, select the Save service as default checkbox.
The next time you sign in and navigate to BMC AMI Ops Monitor views, dashboards or active alarms, the default service connects automatically. To change the service, see To change the Host Server.
  6. (BMC.AMIOPS.SPE2210) (Optional) Enable access to the user defined custom views. By default, BMC AMI Ops User Interface displays views from the global space. To enable you to access the views that you have customized and saved in the user library, the Enable access to user defined custom views checkbox is selected by default.
To access the user library, you must specify the user data set name according to the following options:

    Important

You can access the user defined custom views only if,

    • The data set already exists.
    • The BBVDEF and BBCDEF are allocated and accessible.

If one of them is not allocated, or is archived then the connection from BMC AMI Ops User Interface fails and gives an error message.

To access the customized views, it is required to allocate BBVDEF and BBCDEF. The current version of BMC AMI Ops User Interface does not support allocation of data sets including BBVDEF and BBCDEF. But, you can use BMC AMI Ops User Interface with a regular TSO ID without allocating BBVDEF and BBCDEF to access the customized views.

Use the following TSO commands to migrate or recall data sets manually:

    • Migrate—HMIGRATE to lock the data set
    • Recall—HRECALL to unlock the migrated data set
    • If you have created your data set with the default name format, select Standard data set name.
If you added a prefix to the data set name, make sure the prefix is specified in the text box below the Standard data set name option.

      Example

      prefix.userID.%BBDEF

    • If you have created a data set using a format different from the standard format, select Custom data set name, and specify the exact name of the data set that you used when creating it.

      Important

If %BBDEF is not included in the name of the data set, it is appended to the name during processing.

      Tip

When connecting to a data set, if you get one of the following errors, check data set details and try again:

      • Unable to find <data set name>.
      • The data set <data set name> has been archived.

If you don't have a user data set, you can clear the Enable access to user defined custom views check box.

  7. Select the Save data set name as default for the selected Ops Host Server checkbox to save the data set name as default for the selected Host Server.
  8. Click Connect.

After you connect to a Host Server, you can load dashboards, active alarms, and data views.

To change the Host Server

  1. In the navigation bar, click the name of the current Host Server and select or enter a different host name and port number.
  2. (BMC.AMIOPS.SPE2210)

(Optional) To set the selected service as the default, select the Set as default checkbox.

Important

  • After you change the connected Host Server, all open views are automatically closed.
  • You cannot connect to multiple Host Servers in one browser tab, but you can open multiple browser tabs with each one connected to a different Host Server.
