CSMON service

Related topic

The CSMON service displays information about common storage and the address space to which its ownership is attributed.

Important

The CSMON service provides a subset of the information provided by the CSMON facility, which is included in the BMC AMI Ops Monitor for z/OS product.

You can use short-term monitoring to diagnose sudden increases in common storage allocations, or to monitor one or more address spaces that might be overusing common storage.

You can use long-term monitoring to diagnose slowly increasing allocations of common storage, or to determine whether specific address spaces are allocating excessive amounts of common storage. For more information about common storage, commands, and data extraction and analysis, see Monitoring common storage usage.

Syntax

CSMON service syntax diagram corrected 2.png
The parameters are defined as follows:

Parameter

Description

SUMMARY (or SUM)

(Default) Summarizes CSA and SQA allocations, both above and below the 16-MB line, by address space

You can use one of the following parameters with SUMMARY:

  • (default) ASID sorts the output by the ASID column.
  • JOBNAME sorts the output by the JOBNAME column.
  • SQA sorts the output by the TOT SQA column in descending order.
  • SQA< Sorts the output by the SQA< column in descending order.
  • SQA> Sorts the output by the SQA> column in descending order.
  • CSA sorts the output by the TOTCSA column in descending order.
  • CSA< Sorts the output by the CSA< column in descending order.

    Important

The CSA< value includes any allocated RUCSA.

  • CSA> Sorts the output by the CSA> column in descending order.

    Important

The CSA> value includes any allocated RUCSA.

  • limit, which is a value from 1 to 9999, limits the display to the specified number of entries.

You can specify the limit value only as the third parameter. For example:

    CSMON SUM ASID 10

If you don't specify a limit value, all entries are displayed.

STATUS

Displays the status of the IBM Virtual Storage Management (VSM) data

MAP asi

Lists the common storage blocks attributed to a specific address space

The asi value, which is required after the MAP parameter, specifies the subject address space instance. For more information, see Identifying-address-spaces.

Example 1

If the size of the common storage area is greater than 1,000,000 KB, the value in the LENGTH field is scaled.

To list the common storage blocks allocated by JES2, enter CSMON,MAP JES2:
