Customizing z/OS services for OSA data collection

Before you can use the Open Systems Adapter (OSA) views, make sure that you have completed the required customization tasks.

You can enable data collection for the Open Systems Adapter (OSA) views by configuring the OSA support and setting up the SNMP TCP/IP subagent.

Important

You must configure your SNMPD.CONF or PW.SRC file so the SNMP agent can accept requests from IP address 127.0.0.1 (loopback). BMC AMI Ops Monitor for IP sends requests from IP address 127.0.0.1 to collect OSA statistics through SNMP. For more information about configuring the SNMP agent, see the IBM z/OS Communications Server: IP Configuration Guide.

When you use OSA-Express Direct Support, the IOBSNMP address space must run with OSNMPD.

To configure the OSA data collection

  1. Configure the OSA support as described in the IBM z/OS Communications Server: IP Configuration Guide.
  2. Set up the SNMP TCP/IP subagent as described in the IBM S/390: OSA-Express Customer’s Guide and Reference.
  3. If a community name other than the default community name public is used, a node must be added to the SNMPDEF view. The node can have either host name of LOOPBACK or IP address of 127.0.0.1 in addition to the community name. The community name of the 127.0.0.1 resource on the SNMPDEF view is used when retrieving SNMP MIBs from the OSA cards.

Important

You must set up the OSNMPD (SNMP TCP/IP subagent) and IOBSNMP address spaces for each TCP/IP stack that has defined OSA cards.
