Viewing event history


On the Historical Events page, you can view the history of events and exceptions for your system to see if you have any trends or common patterns that point to a recurring problem. To help you focus on what you need, you can filter the events and exceptions, and you can download the data for further analysis.

To see the Historical Events page, select Historical Events from the Events menu.

Important

The Historical page does not refresh automatically. To refresh the page, click Refresh Refresh_button.png.

Historical Events

The following information is displayed on the Historical Events:

Field

Description

Sysplex

Sysplex where the event occurred

LPAR

LPAR where the event occurred

For Db2 Data Sharing Group-level events, a dash is displayed here.

Db2 Data Sharing Group

Db2 Data Sharing Group where the event occurred or Db2 Data Sharing Group of the Db2 subsystem on which the event occurred

Db2 Subsystem

Db2 Subsystem where the event occurred

For Db2 data sharing group-level events, a dash is displayed here.

Events that include Exceptions are indicated by a red dot.

Event ID

Unique ID of the event

The Event ID is made up of the Db2 Subsystem name, the Db2 Data Sharing Group , and a timestamp.

Event Type

Event type of event, such as LPAR or Db2 Subsystem 

Event Category

Event category of the event ID, such as Workload, I/O, and Contention

Category can appear any time during the event duration.

Event Start

Time and date when the event started

Event End

Time and date when the event ended

Total Duration

Amount of time the event lasted

To filter historical events

You can filter the data displayed on the Historical page to show you more focused information as follows:

  1. Click Filter (Filter_Icon.png) next to a heading.
  2. Select the criteria for which you want to see events.

To view event summary

In the Action (image-2023-12-11_12-47-6.png) column of the table, click the three dots and select View Event Summary. A summary of the event is displayed. For more information, see Viewing-Event-Summary-report.

To view details of an event classification

In the Action (image-2023-12-11_12-47-6.png) column of the table, click the three dots and select View Event Classification. The details of the event are displayed in the same way as on the Active Events page. For more information, see Investigating-events.

To view an event within the Timeline

In the Action (image-2023-12-11_12-47-6.png) column of the table, click the three dot sand select View within Timeline. The event is shown on the Timeline of the System Status page, highlighted by a pulsing grey border. If the event lasted for a while, you are taken to the beginning of the event.

To download historical data

To download a CSV file of data for the events displayed on the Historical page, click Export_Button_KPIG_Status.png.

To view Exceptions associated with the event

In the Action (image-2023-12-11_12-47-6.png) column of the table, click the three dots and select View Associated Exceptions. The Historical - Exceptions tab is displayed with the Exceptions that are associated with this event.

Exceptions

The Exceptions page displays exceptions that are part of closed events and the exceptions that are not associated with an event. Exceptions for events that are still open are not displayed.

The Exceptions page includes the following:

  • z/OS Exceptions–Exceptions on LPAR/Sysplex-level KPIs
  • Db2 Exceptions–Exceptions on Db2-level KPIs

(Db2 Exceptions only) Db2 Data Sharing Group on which the Exception occurred

KPI

KPI of the Exception

Event ID

Unique ID of the event (if the Exception was part of an event)

The Event ID consists of the Db2 Subsystem name, the Db2 Data Sharing Group, and a timestamp.

Description

Description of the cause of the Exception

First Detected

Time and date when the exception was detected

To filter historical Exceptions

You can filter the data displayed on the Historical page to show you more focused information as follows:

  1. Click Filter (Filter_Icon.png) next to a heading.
  2. Select the criteria for which you want to see exceptions.
    To disable or enable monitoring of specific Exceptions, see Handling-Exceptions.

To view details of an event

In the Action (image-2023-12-11_12-47-6.png) column of the table, click the three dots and select View Details. The details of the event are displayed in the same way as on the Active Events page. For more information, see Investigating-events.

Important

This functionality is available only for Exceptions that are associated with an event.

To view an event on the timeline

In the Action  (image-2023-12-11_12-47-6.png)column of the table, click the three dots and select View within Timeline. The event is shown on the Timeline of the System Status page, highlighted by a pulsing grey border. If the event lasted for a while, you are taken to the beginning of the event. You might not see the time when the Exception occurred.

Important

This functionality is available only for Exceptions that are associated with an event.

To return to the previous page

To return to the previous page, click on the Back to pagename link on the top-left of the current page.

Important

The Back to pagename link is not available on drill-down pages.
