Installing BMC AMI Ops Insight


Use the procedures in this topic to install, customize, and configure BMC AMI Ops Insight.

Important

Make sure you have the latest version of the Installation System to enable the options you need to install BMC AMI Ops Insight.

Warning

If you want to use both BMC AMI Ops Insight and BMC AMI Ops User Interface from the same user interface (UI), we recommend that you install BMC AMI Ops Insightand BMC AMI Ops User Interface in the same SMP/E environment.

To install BMC AMI Ops Insight

  1. Run the Installation System.
  2. On the Execute Project panel, select 1. Select Products, Solutions, or Infrastructure and press Enter.
  3. On the Category Selection panel, select System management and press Enter.
  4. On the System management panel, select BMC AMI Ops Insight, scroll to the end of the list and press Enter.

  5. On the Install System RTCS Deselection popup, enter an S if you want to install RTCS and press Enter.

    Important

    If you already have RTCS v. 3.1 or later installed, you can deselect this. If you do not have RTCS v. 3.1 or later installed, select this.

  6. On the Install System Selected Products and Solutions panel verify your selections and press Enter.
  7. On the SMP/E Data Sets and Options panel do the following:
    1. Enter the high-level qualifiers of your distribution and target zones.
    2. In Change Values, select 1.
    3. Press Enter.
  8. On the SMP/E Data Set Allocation and UNIX File System Values panel do the following:
    1. Enter SMS allocation values.
    2. In root directory for BMC file path enter the installation file path on USS.
    3. Enter the Numeric UNIX User-ID and Numeric UNIX Group-ID for the user running the installation. The Numeric UNIX User-ID that you enter here (the user ID used to submit job $168MHFS) must have write access to the path you entered in root directory for BMC file path . This user ID must be a USS UID 0,  or have READ access to the RACF facility class of BPX.SUPERUSER. This job will fail if neither of these conditions are met.

      Tip

      To find the Numeric UNIX User-ID and Numeric UNIX Group-ID, use one of the following options:

      • In OMVS, enter the command Id <UserId>. The UID and GID are displayed.
      • In ISHELL, go to TOOLS and run the shell ID command.
    4. Press Enter.
  9. On the the Installation Job Values & FTP Options panel do the following:
    1. Enter a directory in Root directory for BMC file path.
    2. Accept the default values for the other fields.
    3. Press Enter.
  10. On the Installation JCL Generation Options panel, enter S next to Generate JCL into... and press Enter.
    The JCL jobs are generated.
  11. On the Installation JCL Execution Review panel, press Enter.
  12. Run all the JCL jobs on the list.
  13. Press PF3.

To configure BMC AMI Ops Insight

  1. Select 1.Set Runtime Data Set High Level Qualifiers and press Enter.
  2. On the Runtime & Other Data Sets panel, modify your high level qualifiers and press Enter.
  3. On the Runtime Data Set Allocation Values panel, modify the allocations as appropriate for your environment and press Enter.
  4. On the Configure Products or Components panel, select 1. Configure BMC Infrastructure and press Enter.
  5. On the Reuse Infrastructure Component panel, enter Y or N for RTCS to choose if you want to reuse existing installations or if you want to install new instances and press Enter.

    Important

    You may not see this panel if you do not have RTCS installed already.

  6. On the Runtime Component System panel, enter PROC names for the startup PROCs for RTCS and press Enter.
  7. On the BMC AMI Ops Insight product options panel, fill out all the fields and press Enter.
    1. Existing BMC AMI Ops CAS ID and Existing BMC AMI Ops LINK data set are optional fields. Enter this information to allow BMC AMI Ops Insight to connect to your BMC AMI Ops installation and access BMC AMI Ops data. Without this connection, probable cause analysis functionality is limited. If you choose not to enter this now, or you don't have the information available, you can update this manually later. For more information, see Enabling-detailed-analysis.
    2. Configure docker parameters is set to N by default. Set this to Y to install the Docker container for the graphing functionality database. If you choose not to configure the docker parameters now, you can update this later manually. 
  8. If you set Configure docker parameters to Y, enter the docker properties on the next panel and press Enter

  9. On the Configure Products or Components panel, select 8. Proceed to JCL Generation and press Enter.
  10. On the Generated Job Values panel, fill in your jobcard information and press Enter.
  11. On the Installation JCL Generation Options panel, enter S next to Generate JCL into and press Enter.
    The JCL jobs are generated.
  12. On the Installation JCL Execution Review panel, press Enter.
  13. Run all the JCL jobs on the list.
    If you are installing BMC AMI Ops User Interface with BMC AMI Ops Insight, you also need to run $910CNFG (in JCL dataset) and $902STG (in STGSAMP data set) jobs.
  14. Press PF3 until you are out of the Installation System.

To customize BMC AMI Ops Insight

  1. From UBMCSAMP, run the following jobs in order:
    1. AMIZFS
    2. AMICPYP
    3. AMILOG
    4. AMIFTPG (if you are installing the optional graphing functionality on zCX) 
    5. If you are migrating from the January 2021 release of BMC AMI Ops Insight, run AMIMIGRA.

      Important

      BMC AMI Ops Insight file system must be mounted during install and after every Initial Program Load (IPL).
      To automate this task of mounting the file system after every IPL, add BMC AMI Ops Insight and the BMC AMI Ops User Interfacefile systems and related mount points in BPXPRMxx member of system PARMLIB.

  2. Copy the following jobs to the system PROCLIB:
    • Data preparation address space started task (default: AMIJCL)
    • Tomcat REST interface server started task (default: AMITCJCL)
    • BMC AMI Managerstarted task (default: AMIMGR)
    • SMF Record Handler address space started task (default: AMISMFRH)
  3. If you do not already have RTCS running on your system, copy the following jobs to the system proclib:
    • OSZEXEC
    • OSZINIT
    • OSZRTCS
  4. Copy the following jobs from UBBSAMP to the system proclib. 
    • BMC AMI Ops UI Discovery
    • BMC AMI Ops UI server
    • BMC AMI Ops Monitor Service server (if available) 

To Install the Docker (or dashboard) container on Linux

Important

Use this procedure only if you are installing the Docker container for the optional graphing feature on Linux.

  1. From the BMC Electronic Product Download site (EPD) website, select 

    BMC AMI Ops Insight

    .

  2. Click the Docker Container for 

    BMC AMI Ops Insight

     Version 2.5.00 (Linux on x86) link to download the token file .

  3. Select the checkbox for Docker Container for BMC AMI Ops Insight Version 2.5.00 (Linux on x86) and click Download to download the script.
  4. Move the downloaded token and script files to the target Linux system.
  5. Use the following command to make the script file executable:

    sudo chmod +x container-shell-lpqmb2.5.00.sh
