Viewing detailed analysis

(BMC.AMIOPS.SPE2210)

Using the BMC AMI Ops Insight Probable Cause Analysis feature, you can detect and analyze issues that are restricting your Mainframe to run its typical workload. It saves your critical time by automatically pulling detailed data from BMC AMI Ops Monitor for Db2, z/OS, CICS, and IMS to analyze the probable cause of the issue. It also helps you in diagnosing the exact area of concern, therefore, leading to timely intervention.

Important

  • The Detailed Analysis queries the BMC AMI Ops Monitor products that are currently set up to monitor the Db2 subsystems involved in the event. Because of that, the Detailed Analysis only works if the Data Preparation address space is connected to a CAS that is in the same BMC AMI Ops Infrastructure ( formerly MVI) Plex as those monitors.
  • To view a detailed analysis of an event, you must set ENABLE_RCA=true in amipdt.properties.

To view a detailed analysis of an event based on Workload classification

  1. On the Events tab, click Active Events.
  2. On the Active Events page, on the tile that you want to examine, click Investigate.
You can also go to Probable Cause Analysis page from the following tabs:
  3. On the Probable Cause Analysis page, under Event Classification, click View Detailed Analysis for a category.
The View Detailed Analysis window displays the root cause analysis of the selected category. The following is an example of Workload category:

    Description

    1

    Time list and date

Displays the time and date of the data being analyzed

    image-2023-8-29_12-8-6.png

In the time list, a image-2023-8-29_12-4-38.pngicon indicates that a problem occurred at that time.

    2

    Category

    Categories for the detailed analysis

Currently, you can view the detailed analysis only for the following categories of Db2 Subsystem and Db2 Data Sharing group events.

    • Contention
    • CPU
    • I/O
    • Workload

Select a tab to see the root cause analysis. Aimage-2023-8-29_11-45-59.png next to a category indicates a problem with the category.

    3

    Overview

Displays the problem summary and why it occurred

This provides a broad overview of your current operations for the Db2 subsystem or Db2 data sharing group targeted in the event.

    4

    Problem Summary

Displays the summary of the problem

    5

    Current Operation

Displays DML KPIs that are not in a normal state for a category

    6

    Analyze Current  Workload

Displays the workload distribution in a graph format

    7

    Analysis

Displays statistics for the Db2s, CICS regions, IMS regions, and the relevant LPARs.

If one of the subsystems reaches a critical threshold, the card moves to the top of the list with an indicator of the conditions.

    The thresholds include:

    • Db2—CONDBAT, MAXDBAT, MAXTSO, MAXBatch, CTHREAD
    • CICS—MAXTASK
  4. In the Overview section, on the Current Operations card, select Z-Score or Value to view the current operations.
    image2022-9-21_13-50-52.png
  5. Click Analyze Current Workload to view your current workload distribution in a graph format.
  6. On the Workload - Details window, from the Select View list, select a view to see your current workload in other charts and graphs.

    Important

All the view charts except for the Workload Distribution for Db2 require Docker container with PostgreSQL DB configuration. If the view charts are not configured, the other views in the list are disabled.

For more information, see Requirements for graph functionality.

Select a filter type—LPAR, Type, and Region
Each filter displays a chart specific to the view.

  7. In the Analysis section, different workload analyses are displayed as cards.
    In a card:
    • Click More Details to see the remaining information related to the selected workload.
    • Click View name to open that view.
