Enabling diagnostics

BMC AMI Ops Insight includes the ability to log diagnostic data. This is data about the functioning of BMC AMI Ops Insight itself in order to diagnose any issues that may arise with the application. It does not include data on how anything else in your system is functioning.

Important

Use the procedures in this topic only if instructed by your BMC customer support representative, and turn diagnostics off immediately when you are finished. Leaving diagnostics running can use a lot of system resources.

To enable or disable diagnostics

  1. Click the Administration icon Gear Icon.PNG in the title bar.
  2. Click General Settings > Diagnostics in the menu on the left side.

  3. Click the switch to turn diagnostics on or off.
  4. When you are prompted, click Continue_button.png.

To collect diagnostic files

Collect log files with diagnostic messages as follows:

  • Data Preparation address space – AMILOG01 data set that you defined during installation
  • BMC AMI Manager –  < installation directory > /aoidata/aoiinst/logs
  • Tomcat – <installation directory>/aoihome/tomcat8/default/logs
  • SMF Record Handler – <installation directory>/aoidata/srhinst/logs
  • Docker container – Use the following commands to collect the logs:
    • docker cp <container-name>:/tmp ./logs
    • docker cp <container-name>:/var/log/nginx ./logs/proxy-logs

After you collect all of the log files, zip them and send them to your BMC customer support representative.
