Viewing system status
The System Status screens provide information on your system performance over time. You can access them from the System Status menu.
The System Status screens include the following:
- KPI Group Status—A breakdown of the current status of each KPI group in each sharing group and subsystem
- Timeline—A timeline of performance of your system and when events occurred
The KPI Group Status screen displays a breakdown of the current status of each KPI group for the selected sharing group and for each subsystem in the selected sharing group, or for each LPAR within the selected Sysplex. The display includes numbers for all KPI groups that are in anomaly state to help you diagnose issues.
In the dropdown at the top of the tab, select Db2 Sharing Group to display data for a Db2 data sharing group or select Sysplex to display data for a Sysplex.
- If you select Db2 Sharing Group, a tab is displayed for each data sharing group. Within each tab, the top row represents the data sharing group and each subsequent row represents a subsystem within the data sharing group. The data sharing group name and each subsystem name is highlighted with the color that represents its overall status. If the status is unstable, the subsystem or data sharing group is marked with an ongoing event icon
. Click the icon to see event details on the Probable Cause tab of the Active Events screen.
The name of each subsystem's LPAR is displayed to the right of the subsystem name.
LPARs are listed at the bottom of the tab and are colored according to their status. If an LPAR is experiencing an event, there is a problem in one of the LPAR KPI groups.
- If you select Sysplex, a tab is displayed for each Sysplex. Within each tab, each row represents an LPAR in the Sysplex. Each LPAR name is highlighted with the color that represents its overall status. If the status is unstable, the Sysplex is marked with an ongoing event icon
. Click the icon to see event details on the Probable Cause tab of the Active Events screen.
At the bottom of the tab, you can select individual WLM importance levels to see the breakdown of the WLM related KPIs in the display. Select Total to see only the single total value.
The subsystems or LPARs, and their KPI groups are listed with their status represented by colored icons with numbers, as listed on the Legend on the right side of the screen. The number indicates how long (in minutes) the KPI group has been in a status other than stable or the normalized score for the KPI Group.
If there is a Limit Breach, the icons for those KPI Groups are marked with an exclamation point even if they are within normal parameters.
If a subsystem restart is detected, affected KPI Groups are marked with a Restart icon.
Changing the display
To select which values to display in the icons, click Display and select one of the following options:
- Elapsed Time—numbers in the icons reflect the number of minutes since the KPI Groups became unstable
- Current Z-Score—numbers in the icons reflect the current Z-score for the KPI Groups
The icon for the Display button changes based on your selection. If you select Elapsed Time, it shows . If you select Current Z-Score, it shows
.
Viewing details for a KPI group
You can click an icon of an anomalous KPI Group to see details about its status:
Exporting data
You can export the raw data for a data sharing group, subsystem, or LPAR to a CSV file. The file includes KPI Group scores and Exception scores.
To export the raw data, follow these steps:
- Click
.
- Select the data sharing group, subsystem, or LPAR.
- Click
.
The CSV file is downloaded to your browser.
The Timeline screen displays a timeline for the selected DB2 data sharing group and all of its subsystems, or for the selected Sysplex and all of its LPARs.
To change the timeline from data sharing groups to Sysplexes, click the selection arrow next to Db2 Sharing Group and select Sysplex from the dropdown.
Events and Exceptions are indicated as follows:
- Orange shading indicates an ongoing event.
- Grey shading indicates a closed event.
- A red dot indicates an Exception.
Click the name of a data sharing group, subsystem, or LPAR, or on a shaded event, to drill down and see more details.
The detailed timeline displays a timeline for all Categories and their performance for the selected item. Any time a KPI Group within a Category was in an anomaly state, it's indicated by an orange marker on the timeline.
Click the name of an LPAR, data sharing group, or subsystem, or click on the event within the timeline to see more details.
You can view the details on a timeline or in the graph view.
Timeline
Item | Description |
---|---|
1 | Click Expand all Click Collapse all Click Customize view Click Filter - z/OS WLM Importance |
2 | Use the arrow buttons to navigate along the timeline. The single arrow (< or >) moves one hour. The double arrow (<< or >>) moves four hours. You can move a maximum of 48 hours back. |
3 | Events are indicated by shaded areas in the Events row. Click a shaded area Click the Event ID at the top of the Event Log to see the event details on the Active Events screen. Click a timestamp to see detailed information for that time. |
4 | Click a Category name to expand it and see individual graphs for all of the KPI Groups in that category. The green area of the graph represents the normal range. The yellow and red areas of the graph represent anomaly values (values outside the normal range). Hover over the timeline to see what the Z-Scores were for the KPI Groups at any given time. If a KPI Group has a Limit Breach, the timeline is shaded darker for that KPI Group during the breach. |
5 | If any Exceptions occurred in the selected subsystem, they are listed in the Exception area.
Hover over an Exception to see the Exception details. |
Graph View
To see graphs for all KPI Groups, click Switch to Graph View. The time period displayed on the graphs is the time period you were viewing on the timeline.
Graph view displays individual graphs per KPI Group for all KPI Groups at the selected time, with a breakdown to the individual KPIs.
To see KPI values on a graph for a specific time, hover over the graph.
To see a graph for a single KPI, click the KPI name below the graph. To see a graph for multiple KPIs within a KPI Group, press Ctrl or Shift to select multiple KPI Groups.
To zoom in on a smaller time range, drag your cursor across one of the graphs to select the range. All of the graphs zoom in on the time range you selected.
To see an expanded view of a single graph, click the list next to the graph title and select View.
A more detailed view of the graph is displayed.
To return to the view of all of the KPI Group graphs, click the back arrow or press Esc.
For z/OS events, the graphs include a filter for WLM importance levels.
By default, only IMP0, IMP1, and IMP2 WLM levels are shown. Click the IMP0 + IMP1 + IMP2 button, to open the filter and select the WLM levels you want to see.
