Requirements

Before you install the product, make sure that your environment meets the following requirements:

System requirements

Prepare your environment with the following system requirements:

Item

Requirement

Operating system

z/OS 2.2 or later

Db2

Db2 for z/OS version 11 or 12

RTCS

RTCS version 2.1 (Installed by Installation system if not already present)

UIM

UIM version 5.5 (Installed by Installation system if not already present)

DNA Host Services

FMID ZDHS053

Important

If FMID ZDHS053 was not installed with your previous installation of UIM, we recommend selecting UIM during the install of BMC AMI Ops Insight.

BMC AMI Defender

BMC AMI Defender for Ops Insight version 6.1.000 SPE2201

Java

Java 8 for z/OS, 31 bit and 64 bit

Requirements for launching BMC AMI Ops views

To launch the relevant BMC AM IOps view from the classification page, you must have BMC AMI Ops UI 1.0 installed.

Requirements for accessing the UI

  • Chrome running on a Windows operating system
  • iOS devices
    • Version: 14.4 or later
    • Size: 9.7" or larger
  • Android devices
    • Version: 10 or later
    • Size: 10.5" or larger

Note

On touch screens, only landscape mode is supported.

USS parameter requirements

Prepare your USS environment with the following requirements:

Parameter

Requirements

MEMLIMIT

Minimum 64 GB in the OMVS segment of the user running AM Manager and Tomcat

MAXTHREADS and
MAXTHREADTASKS

192 threads:

  • 64 threads for the PDTDB database
  • 64 threads for MLeap
  • 64 threads for AMI Manager

Memory

  • Minimum normal workload (-Xms)–default 2GB
  • Maximum workload (-Xmx)–default 4GB

Note

These numbers might vary depending on the number of models in use. You can modify them in <INSTALL_PATH>/aoihome/oi_home/mgr/bin/run_manager.sh.

WLM requirements

All components of BMC AMI Ops Insight must run at a higher priority than what they are monitoring. We recommend that you run them in Importance 1.

For the optional detailed analysis to work properly under load, make sure that your BMC AMI Ops Infrastructure and monitor products are defined with the correct WLM Service Class. For more information, see BMC AMI Ops Infrastructure documentation.

Installation requirements

The user who runs the SMP/E install and post-install jobs must have an OMVS segment and RACF READ permission to the BPX.FILEATTR.APF and BPX.FILEATTR.PROGCTL resources in the FACILITY class to set USS's APF and PROGCTL extended attributes.

RMF/CMF requirements

For BMC AMI Ops Insight to collect the required SMF data for 1.2 SYSPLEX KPIs, BMC AMI Ops Monitor for CMFor IBM’s RMF Monitor I (SMF 70-78) and Monitor III (SMF 74.2 and 74.4) must be active on the LPARs where your Db2 subsystems are running.

  • SMF record types 74-2 (XCF Activity) and 74-4 (CF Activity) are optional, but RMF's Monitor III data gathering is highly recommended if you are using RMF to detect problems related to Coupling Facility (CF) and Cross-system Facility (XCF).
  • CMF and RMF extractors produce identical type 70 through type 79 records. If you have CMFand RMF active simultaneously, make sure that only CMF or RMF is configured to write to the SMF data set, or SMF logstream, to prevent duplicate records in BMC AMI Ops Insight.
  • Make sure that following control statements are enabled in CMF or RMF:

    CMF Control Statements

RMF I & III Control Statements

For more details, see Collecting-data-using-the-BMC-AMI-Ops-Monitor-for-CMF-Extractor or your z/OS RMF documentation.
