Managing notifications


You can set up BMC AMI Ops Insight to send email notifications to alert you about events in your environment, and you can set up WTO notifications to be issued to your operator console. 

Use the following procedures to manage notifications.

To set up your email account for notifications

Note

If you do not set up your email account, and leave the default settings, BMC AMI Ops Insight does not send email notifications.

  1. Click the Administration icon Gear Icon.PNG in the title bar. 
  2. Click General Settings > Notifications in the menu on the left side.
  3. Click Setup SMTP.

  4. In the Setup SMTP dialog, set the following:

    Field

    Description

    TLS/SSL required

    Indicates if your email server requires TLS/SSL authentication

    Host Name

    IP Address or FQDN of your email server

    Port

    Port number of your email server

    Authorization required

    Indicates if authorization is required to access the email server If you select this, you need to enter a valid Username and Password for the email server.

    Note

    The Password you enter here is not saved. To permanently update, modify the password in the amipdt.properties file.

  5. Click Save.

    Best Practice
    Emails are sent out as "No Reply" emails. We recommend that you configure filtering rules on your POP server to filter replies and bounced emails.

  6. Proceed with To customize email notifications.

To customize email notifications

  1. Click the Administration icon Gear Icon.PNG in the title bar. 
  2. Click General Settings > Notifications in the menu on the left side.
  3. Click Customize Email.

  4. in the Customize Email dialog, enter the following:

    Field

    Description

    Sender Email Address

    Sender email address used to send email notifications

    Email Subject

    Subject of the notification emails

  5. Click Save.

To set the email notification threshold

By default, email notifications are sent immediately when an event is opened. Events are active three minutes before they are opened.

You can modify the amount of time an event must be open before the product issues the initial email, as follows:

  1. Click the Administration icon Gear Icon.PNG in the title bar. 
  2. Click General Settings > Notifications in the menu on the left side.
  3. Click Edit next to Initial Notification Threshold.
  4. Select any value between 0 and 60 minutes. 
  5. Click Save.

To set email frequency

By default, email notifications are sent when an event is opened or closed, and every 30 minutes, as long as an event stays open. You can modify the frequency of emails while an event remains open, as follows:

  1. Click the Administration icon Gear Icon.PNG in the title bar. 
  2. Click General Settings > Notifications in the menu on the left side.
  3. Click Edit next to Update Frequency.
  4. Select a value between 0 and 60 minutes. 
    If you select 0, email notifications are still sent when an event is opened or closed, but no email notifications are sent as long as the event remains open.
  5. Click Save.

To add email addresses

  1. Click the Administration icon Gear Icon.PNG in the title bar. 
  2. Click General Settings > Notifications in the menu on the left side.
  3. Add email addresses in the box. Separate email addresses by commas.

  4. Click Add_Button.png to add the addresses to the Recipient List.

To delete email addresses

  1. Click the Administration icon Gear Icon.PNG in the title bar. 
  2. Click General Settings > Notifications in the menu on the left side.
  3. Click the trash icontrash icon.PNGon the rows of the email addresses you want to delete.

To set the WTO notification threshold

By default, WTO notifications are sent immediately when an event is opened. Events are active three minutes before they are opened.

  1. Click the Administration icon Gear Icon.PNG in the title bar. 
  2. Click General Settings > Notifications in the menu on the left side.
  3. Click Write To Operator (WTO).
  4. Click Edit next to Initial Notification Threshold.
  5. Select a value between 0 and 60 minutes. 
  6. Click Save.

To add route codes

Route codes send system messages to your consoles where they are displayed. To send a message to more than one console, you can assign more than one route code. For more information about route codes, see your IBM documentation on routing and descriptor codes .

  1. Click the Administration icon Gear Icon.PNG in the title bar. 
  2. Click General Settings > Notifications in the menu on the left side.
  3. Click Write To Operator (WTO).
  4. Add route codes in the Enter Route Codes box. Separate codes by commas. You can enter a maximum of 16 route codes. between 1 and 128.

  1. Click Add_Button.png.

To delete route codes

  1. Click the Administration icon Gear Icon.PNG in the title bar. 
  2. Click General Settings > Notifications in the menu on the left side.
  3. Click Write To Operator (WTO).
  4. Click the X next to the route code you want to delete.
