To perform actions on data

For a view that has resources on the  BMC AMI Ops service ( also known as Host Server ), use the following procedure to perform actions on the service. You can perform actions on a single line of data or on the entire view.

To perform actions on tabular data

If actions are configured in the product resource, you can perform actions on a single line of data in a tabular data view as follows:

  1. Click the three-dot action menu icon in the left-most column of the table and select an action from the list of defined actions.
  2. Click Yes to confirm.
If the product resource requires additional information, complete the arguments and click to apply or save.
Click here to see examples of line actions.
Information
Example

The following image displays actions for a selected line of data. Your options might vary, depending on the product and its configuration.

opsui_tableLineAction.png

For longer lists, you can use the search box to quickly find a specific action. Enter all or part of the command name in the search box at the top of the action list.

Some actions include a Multi Platform Dialog (MPD) with several requirements and options, such as displayed in the following image. The MPD content comes from the product resource.

opsui_mpd.png

Some line actions open configuration files in a text editor that you can view or edit. In the text editor, the background color of the numbered lines indicate the status as follows:

  • Black—Browse mode, read-only
  • Green—Edit mode, ready for editing
  • Orange—Unsaved edits, you edited file but have not yet saved the changes

For more information about actions that you can perform, see Performing-actions-in-the-BMC-AMI-Ops-UI.

To hide and show content

Some views display a table, details, or both. You can show and hide content so that you can more easily find the information you are looking for.

  • For a view that displays a combination of table and details, click Hide details or Show details next to the view name, as shown in the following image:

    opsui_hybridView.png

  • Some table views have fields that are excluded from the view definition. To display or hide the excluded fields, click the Show excluded fields toggle switch as shown in the following image:

    opsui_showExcluded.png

  • Some details views have fields that are excluded in the view definition. To display or hide the excluded fields, click Show more or Show less next to the view title.

To refresh a view

You can refresh an open view to ensure that it displays up-to-date data.

Error
Warning

Frequently refreshing one or more views can have adverse effects on the system response time.

To manually refresh an open view, click Refresh opsui_refresh_manual.png.

To set a refresh schedule

Warning

Important

To set a view to refresh automatically, you must have authorization. If this feature is not available, contact your system administrator.

  1. Click the Autorefresh box and choose a preset frequency at which you want to refresh the view. Available frequencies range from 1 to 30 minutes.

    opsui_autorefresh.png
The BMC AMI Ops system administrator can disable one or more autorefresh values.

  2. To turn off the automatic refresh, click the box and select Off.

To change the context of a view

To filter a tabular view

Use filters to show or hide specific values in one or more columns of data in an open view.

  1. In the box under the column header, filter numeric values or by character matching.
    • For numeric data, enter an operator and value. The operator must be to the left of the filter value. To filter time values, make sure you enter values in the hh:mm:ss format.

      Operator

      Description

      =

      Equals

      >=

      Greater than or equal to

      <=

      Less than or equal to

      >

      Greater than

      <

      Less than

    • For character data, enter a string or partial string. The filter is not case sensitive. You can also use one or more of the following wild cards enclosed in single quotation marks:
      • *  represents zero or more characters
An asterisk can appear in one or more positions in the value, for example, 'CICS*' or '*CICS*'.
A partial string is interpreted as 'yourText*'.
      • ?  represents a single character
A question mark can appear in one or more positions in the value, for example, 'CICS?2?'.
  2. Press Enter.

When you filter data, the system hides rows that do not match the filter criteria.

To remove a filter, delete the text in the filter box and press Enter.

To modify data for more detailed examination

For a view that displays both details and a table, you can modify values in the details pane for the current session. Depending on the definition in the product, you can update defined values, or you can filter data in the table.

  1. Click the Edit icon at the top of the details pane.
  2. Modify the editable values and click Apply.
The data in the table is filtered or modified, for the current session, according to the values in the details pane.
  3. Click Back to default to return to the view's default values.

To display historical data in a view

In an open view, you can see data that is filtered for a specific time and date range.

To select a preset time

Click the TIME box and select a preset time range:

  • Last 1 hour
  • Last 2 hours
  • Last 4 hours
  • Last 6 hours

To select a custom time

  1. Click the TIME box and select Custom.
  2. Set the Start Date and Start Time, End Date and End Time.
  3. Select the days of the week you want to examine.
  4. Select a range of hours from the Shift list:
    • Allday, 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM (the default setting)
    • Prime shift, 8 AM to 4 PM
    • Swing shift, 4 PM to 12 AM
    • Graveyard shift, 12 AM to 8 AM
  5. Click Apply.

The TIME box displays the time and date range.

The system hides data that does not fall within the specified range. The number of records that apply to the range is displayed in the upper-right area of the view.

To remove the date and time limits, click the TIME box and select Current.

Examining numeric historical data

When you select a time range, columns with numeric data (including time and date values) show a graph of the values over the range, and the average value from the selected range. Hover over the graph line to see a value and time interval:

opsui_hstry_hover.PNG

Right-click the value to see the job name, relevant view hyperlink, and if applicable, threshold information:

opsui_hstry_rightClick.png

Click a point on the graph to see a popup window with the specified value and the values before and after. From any point, you can click the hyperlink in the View column to see a filtered view for the specified time:

opsui_hstry_clickGraph.png

Click Show all intervals on the popup window to see all the values for the time range. You can also click the action menu at the left end of a row to show all the intervals:

opsui_hstry_allIntrvl_spe2104.png

When all intervals are displayed, you can click Previous 1hr or Next 1hr to see beyond the defined time range.

To see data threshold conditions

Views can display data where threshold conditions have been set in the product's view definition. For information about setting conditions in the view definition, see the documentation for the specific product.

Data values with threshold conditions show a colored triangle in the corner of the data cell that corresponds to the severity of the condition. The thresholds depend on the view definition, but a typical order might display as follows:

  1. Informational (green)

  2. Minor (blue)

  3. Warning (yellow)

  4. Major (orange)

  5. Critical (red)

Right-click the cell with the colored triangle to display the following threshold information:

  • Key field for the view, if any are defined for it
  • Hyperlink to a view, if defined. For more information about hyperlinks, see To see related information using hyperlinks later in this topic.
  • Threshold value that was crossed and its relative severity

The following image displays an example of the threshold information:

opsui_threshold_popup.png

Depending on the view definition, data points can show more specific or related data through hyperlinks. If a column in an open view has data with hyperlinks, an icon is displayed in the column header.

The following image displays the icon in the column header and the hyperlink color that changes when you hover over the text:

opsui_linkIcon.png

Click the hyperlink to open a new view from the hyperlink.

Right-click the colored text and click the arrow to see the name of the view that the hyperlink opens and the filter, sort, or period that are applied to the view.
