Using BMC AMI Datastream for Ops

BMC AMI Datastream for Opsis a component that collects BMC AMI Ops performance records that you can use for business analysis and reporting in products such as Splunk.

The BMC AMI Ops interval recorder writes a historical data set at the end of every recording interval. When you enable BMC AMI Datastream for Ops, the interval recorder passes historical data to BMC AMI Datastream for Ops, which continuously processes a selected subset of the historical data and sends it to the user. The list of record types for each product is defined by the data maps in the BBMAP data set. For more information about historical data and record types, see Extracting-historical-data and Using-table-data-maps.

Important

Before sending the output records to Splunk, BMC AMI Datastream for Ops transforms the output of the historical data. For more information, seeTransforming historical data for Splunk.

BMC AMI Datastream for Opscan collect records for the following BMC AMI Ops products:

To enable BMC AMI Datastream for Ops to collect historical data, you must locally configure and enable the Product Address Space (PAS) for eachBMC AMI Ops product. You must configure each PAS with a unique Datastream instance name to link toBMC AMI Datastream for Ops. You should configure only those PASs in the CASPLEX from which you want to send history data toBMC AMI Datastream for Ops.

Important

You can configure the PASs of the listed products only. Future releases of BMC AMI Ops will add more products to this list.

A single PAS of a BMC AMI Ops product connects to a single BMC AMI Datastream for Ops address space at a time, but a single BMC AMI Datastream for Ops address space can receive historical data from multiple PASs residing on the same z/OS LPAR.

Important

A single BMC AMI Datastream for Ops provides information to a single user at a time.

Before you can use BMC AMI Datastream for Ops, you must install and enable the component. For more information, seeInstalling and configuring BMC AMI Datastream for Ops.

Interval durations for BMC AMI Ops Monitor for z/OS

The BMC AMI Ops Monitor for z/OS product supports the following durations of intervals for writing history records:

  • Normal—(Default) Normal intervals are set to write the history records every 15 minutes.
  • Long-term—Long-term intervals are set to four times the normal interval or one hour.
  • Short-term—Short-term intervals can be set to 15, 20, or 60 seconds.

    Important

By default, short-term intervals are disabled. You must enable them to allow the interval recorder to transmit performance records to BMC AMI Datastream for Ops.

All other BMC AMI Ops products that record history using the interval recorder have normal intervals.
