Verification of Logger data sets

Logger

is a stand-alone logging facility that provides any BMC product or

BMC AMI Ops Infrastructure

a way to log important messages or events in a centralized repository.

Tip

This task is required for all BMC AMI Ops products.

The Logger agent runs within the BMC Execution Component for z/OS (DBC) subsystem address space. The Logger agent manages the logspace and provides connections that supply Logger functionality.

You can have only one default logger per LPAR and that logspace is considered the primary logspace. This logspace is shared among products and the BMC AMI Ops Infrastructure for logging of messages and events. Some BMC AMI Ops products may require their own logspace due to data requirements; the individual products will define these product specific logspaces.

For more information about Logger, including how to manage the retention of logged messages, see Managing-the-Logger.

See related tasks for procedures to allocate the data sets that are required for the Logger logspaces.

Note

If you are customizing BMC AMI Ops Monitor for MQ, you might need to set up product-specific logspaces.
