Overview of the Data Dictionary
The
Data Dictionary
is a comprehensive resource that gives you direct, immediate access to the pertinent information that defines every metric that
BMC AMI Ops
products use.
You can:
- View and organize a list of metrics by BMC AMI Ops product
- View information about the data that the metric contains
- Identify which views in BMC AMI Ops contain the metric
- Perform searches for terms or character strings across the metric name or description
By accessing the Data Dictionary from a particular BMC AMI Ops product, you can examine and display information about the metrics of that product from the Data Dictionary's views. The following table describes the views of the Data Dictionary:

EZMETRIC | Provides a menu with hyperlinks to the Data Dictionary views |
METRICZ | Accesses information about all of the metrics in a particular BMC AMI Ops product The records of the view are grouped by both the metric name and table name to make each metric unique in the display. |
METRICZV | Displays a list of the view names in the BMC AMI Ops product The data is compiled based on product's distributed view definition. The records of the view are grouped by the view name and provide a view description, the view type, and a count of the number of metrics in the view. |
METRICZT | Displays a list of the titles of the field help for all of the metrics in the BMC AMI Ops product The data is compiled based on the BMC AMI Ops product's distributed view definition. The record of the view is grouped by the Field Help Title. |
METRICS | Identifies all of the views that contain the metric Displays all occurrences of the product's metric in every view and presents them as separate records. |
METRICD | Detailed view that shows the information for a particular metric and presents its data in a format optimized for viewing on the ISPF interface without needing to scroll |
PLEXACT | Displays all active local and remote BMC AMI Ops products and provides access to them |
The Data Dictionary provides an informative list of every metric for each BMC AMI Ops product referenced by its element name and table assignment. Additionally, each entry in the list of metrics provides information about the metric's:
- Table name–The table that contains the element
- View count–How many views contain this element
- Data Type–Whether the data is character or numeric
- Dynamic Threshold setting–Whether a dynamic threshold has been defined for the element
- Online Help Title–The Help name assigned to the metric
- Online Help Text–The first 60 characters of the online Help text
- Data length–The defined length of the data
- (BMC.AMIOPS.SPE2110)View level – The level of the product distributed view
You can use the views of the Data Dictionary to:
- Organize the list of metrics by criteria
- Display a list of the views that contain a particular metric
- Hyperlink to the view that contains the metric
- Hyperlink to a detailed view of the metric to view details in a readable form, rather than viewing the information as an entry in the list of metrics
- Hyperlink to the Threshold Set Definitions view (THRSETS) to see the definition of the dynamic threshold
- Display the online Help for any metric
- Search the online Help entries
Filter the list of metrics in a variety of ways to display only relevant metrics
