Starting and stopping the Host Server

The Host Server is a mainframe started task that provides access to BMC AMI Ops product data. You can view data in real-time using MainView Explorer (MVE), or export data to a file and view it offline using MVE Viewer. For more information, see MainView-Explorer and Overview-of-the-MVE-Viewer

TheHost Server runs as an address space on IBM z/OS systems with a running CAS and communicates with MVE client applications using TCP/IP. When an MVE client requests information:

  1. The Host Server sends the request to the connected CAS.
  2. The CAS collects the information from the appropriate PAS.
  3. The CAS sends the information back to the Host Server.
  4. The Host Server then forwards the information to the client.

Multiple Host Server can run in a system and communicate with the same or different CASs. The following topics describe how to start and stop the Host Server.
