Migrating from BMC AMI Ops Automation version 8.3 to version 8.4 of BMC AMI Ops Automation

Conversion to PDSE

Beginning with Version 4.00.00 of Installation System, we require that the BBLINK and BMCLINK data sets are PDSE data sets. The CAS and PAS must use a PDSE BBLINK or BMCLINK as their runtime library.
To install your products and solutions in an existing zone, make sure that the SMP/E environment is created with the Installation System version 4.00.00 or later. In addition, you must perform all the required steps in the $105SMPE job to verify that the existing LINK data sets are PDSE and your environment is compatible with an existing SMP/E installation.

General migration information

You can run your current Rules, EXECs and solution automation without any manual modifications by copying the existing MainView AutoOPERATOR 8.3 Rules, EXECs, and solutions to the new BMC AMI OpsA 8.4 PAS. You can also copy your parameter members from the MainView AutoOPERATOR 8.3 BBI-SS PAS and use them for the BMC AMI OpsA 8.4 PAS.

However, MainView AutoOPERATOR Rules, EXECs, solutions, and BBPARM members might have been updated in the new version of BMC AMI OpsA. If you customized the MainView AutoOPERATOR Rules, EXECs, solutions, or BBPARM members in an earlier release, you should be prepared to migrate those changes to the new release.

You can do this process either by recustomizing the Rules, EXECs, solutions, and BBPARM members in the new release, or by reviewing the new members shipped by BMC AMI OpsA version 8.3 to see what changes are made in the new release that you can use in your user-modified version.

You can activate any new parameters or parameter values using one of the following options:

  • Edit the BBPARM member, change the value, and restart the BBI-SS PAS
  • Use the PASPARM view to update the member

Some compatibility limitations exist between BMC AMI OpsA 8.4  Rules and Rules from earlier releases. See What has changed about Rules in BMC AMI Ops Automation version 8.4 for information about enhancements that were made to Rules and the compatibility limitations and see  What has changed about EXECs in BMC AMI Ops Automation version 8.4 for information about changes that were made to EXECs.
