OMVS considerations
OMVS is a started task (STC) that IBM z/OS starts at IPL time if you have properly installed and configured IBM z/OS Unix Systems Services.
The OMVS address space stays in storage after issuing the stop command F OMVS,SHUTDOWN. Therefore, TOM must detect the presence of OMVS in the system differently from all other STM objects.
To define the OMVS object, specify the following:
- Product: Started Task Management
- Restart only: Yes (z/OS starts OMVS instead of TOM, unless it abends)
- Start MVS Command type F OMVS,RESTART
- Stop MVS Command type F OMVS,SHUTDOWN
- Auto Detection: Yes (default)
- No Active Check Program
- No start or stop validation events
TOM's STM Extension automatically detects the state of OMVS by using the OMVS kernel-ready flag and the MVS DISPLAY OMVS command internally. This is different from other STM objects, which are normally detected by examining the z/OS ASCB control block.
STM also dynamically adds the following start and stop message-type validation events for the OMVS object as BMC AMI Ops Automation hidden rules to signal TOM when OMVS has completed initialization or termination:
