Finding objects to manage by using Infrastructure Discovery

Important

The MainView Explorer host server is required to use the Infrastructure Discovery component.

You can use Infrastructure Discovery in Total Object Manager (TOM) to populate the object definition base. Infrastructure Discovery provides an easy way to define actual or dummy objects by using information obtained from started tasks and USS processes running in the local system.

Infrastructure Discovery provides the following information:

  • Name of the item
  • Step name of the started task
  • Program name currently running
  • TOM distributed model that matches the discovered item
  • Short description of the item
  • Command to start the item in the local system

You can start the discovery process either by issuing the line command DSC for a system displayed in the TSYS view, by clicking on the Object Discovery hyperlink from the EZTOM menu, or by entering the view name TDSCOBJS from the command field on any TOM view.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
