STM object considerations

Consider the information in this topic when using z/OS started task control (STC) address spaces considerations.

BMC Execution Component for z/OS (DBC)

BMC DBC starts without a step name because the step name is not specified on the START command. During its initialization, DBC automatically sets its step name to its subsystem identifier (SSID).

Therefore, you must perform these actions:

  • Specify the object's START command name without the step name, as an MVS-type command, in the format START (or S), followed by the cataloged-procedure name (for example, S XYZDBC, instead of S XYZDBC.DBC1, in which DBC1 is the SSID.)
  • Specify the object's step name attribute as the SSID. If you don't specify it, TOM fails to correctly detect the state of the address space.
  • Correctly specify the object's started task name attribute.

OMVS address space

IBM z/OS starts the UNIX OMVS address space at IPL, but it might not complete initialization when TOM completes initialization. When you stop (shut down) OMVS, the address space stays in storage. UPM correctly detects the state and automatically defines the initialization and termination messages as start and stop validation events internally. For more information, see OMVS-considerations.
