Difference between STOP, LOCK, and BLOCK
The LOCK, BLOCK, and STOP commands can all stop an object that is in ACTIVE status, but they have different purposes:
- LOCK is intended for keeping an object down (inactive) until the next IPL.
- BLOCK is intended for keeping an object down indefinitely. A BLOCKED object is not started at IPL.
- STOP is the preferred command for stopping an object or set that is ACTIVE and has many options for controlling the stop.
