Basic automation


The basic automation applications consists of the following BMC AMI Ops Automation applications: 

  • Rules Management
  • Windows mode performance and history tools
  • Object management with Total Object Manager
  • Using a Rules registry with the Rules Management application that uses a Runtime Component System (RTCS) registry as a repository for Rules-specific information.

Rules Management

The Rules Management application is a 3270 windows-based editor that you can use to create, edit, and deploy Rules throughout your sysplex. 

With the Rules Management application, Rules are not stored as members of a data set organized by Rule Set as they are with classic Rules.

With Rules Management, you can associate a Rule with more than one Rule Set. This eases maintenance by eliminating unnecessary duplication and allows you to have more precise Rules-based automation. 

The Rules Management editor is also compatible with MainView Explorer. This means that you can also perform all of the Rules Management functions through the web. For more information, see Overview-of-the-Rules-Management-application.

Windows mode performance and history tools

BMC AMI Ops Automation provides two windows mode tools that allow you to view and track how well your automation efforts are performing:

Object management

BMC AMI Ops Automation includes the Total Object Manager component, which provides a full-featured application that allows you to manage the status of the following processes and items:

  • Started Tasks (also referred to as objects),
  • USS processes,
  • Workload Manager resources
  • Generic items (devices, network nodes, and so on)
  • Stateless interfaces (such as system or application commands)

Objects are defined with availability policies that can specify complex schedules, and dependency relationships.

Classic Rule Processor

The Rule Processor applications provide a panel-driven editor that you can use to create Rules that automate events on your system including: 

  • Automatically suppress messages that appear on operator consoles
  • Provide automatic replies to certain events
  • Automatically send BMC AMI Ops Automation ALERTs based on events

In addition, if you have the BMC Impact Integration for z/OS installed, you can send events from BMC AMI OpsA to a BMC Impact manager cell from a Rule. For more information, see Using-the-BiiZ-component-of-BMC-AMI-Ops-Automation.
