Using the MainView Extended (MVX) API

This section describes how to use the MainView eXtended (MVX) API. This API supports IMFEXEC MVX commands that enable BMC AMI Ops Automation EXECs to access data from any BMC AMI Ops product view that is within any accessible BMC AMI Ops product PAS.

To use this API, you should be familiar with IMFEXEC commands and BMC AMI Ops technology. The API is a cross-platform product that enables you to access data from BMC AMI Ops technology by using automation.

Note

The IMFEXEC MVX commands are supported only in REXX EXECs.

The IMFEXEC MVX API requires a BMC AMI Ops Host Server task is running in the accessible TCP/IP network. This task could be running on the same LPAR as the BMC AMI OpsA PAS, or it could be running somewhere else in the TCP/IP network. Consequently, using the IMFEXEC MVX commands allows you to obtain data from a much wider variety of sources than with IMFEXEC MV commands.

Unlike the IMFEXEC MV commands, the IMFEXEC MVX commands also allow you to specify summarization criteria with the TIME command and to use WHERE and QWHERE clauses when obtaining data. Additionally, the new IMFEXEC MVX GETSYMB command can retrieve dictionary symbol data from the static portion of a hybrid view.
