Required IBM documentation
The terminology used for the HMC and BCPii (on which the IMFEXEC HMC command is based) are similar but not identical.
Therefore, the terms on the HMC panels might differ from the terms used in the BCPii and IMFEXEC HMC command documentation. For example HMC users might be familiar with the term Image Profile whereas the BCPii and IMFEXEC HMC documentation refer to it as an "Image Activation Profile".
See the following three IBM publications when writing EXECs with IMFEXEC HMC:
- MVS Programming: Callable Services for High-Level Languages: See the section about BCPii and the section of "BCPii Communication Error Reason Codes."
- Support Element SNMP API - System z Application Programming Interfaces
- Support Element Operations Guide (there are different editions are available for each IBM mainframe model)
The MVS Programming: Callable Services for High-Level Languages documentation contains descriptions for each BCPii HWIxxxx command and explains the operands, the required level of security, and the return codes. It also explains if a token (CPC token or Image token) is required for the command. See Understanding-tokens for more information.
