Workload Management (WLM) resource objects

By enabling the WRM object extension, you can use TOM to manage the state of IBM z/OS Workload Management (WLM) resources.

TOM can automatically manage and change the state of WLM resources (ON or OFF). In TOM, WLM resources are defined as WRM objects. WRM objects are just like other TOM objects such as STM or UPM objects and can have dependencies with other objects that TOM manages.

A WRM object can also have one (or more) schedule(s) defined, just as with other object types. As the schedule definitions in the object's schedule change, the object's status can change, which in turn will affect the state of the associated WLM resource.

TOM will also update the WRM object's state when any of the following events occur:

  • A new Service Policy is activated
  • A Scheduling Environment becomes available/unavailable
  • When something (or someone) changes a resource state setting from outside of TOM (such as an operator command or a Couple Dataset failure/recovery).

For more information about enabling the WRM extension so that TOM can manage WRM objects, refer to BBPARM member MAMPLGxx and review the comments.
